Labour majority barred dissent
The Daily Telegraph

The minutes of the Commons foreign affairs select committee's meetings show that only Labour's majority protected Alastair Campbell and Tony Blair from what could have been far more damning conclusions.

By convention seven of its 11 members, including the chairman Donald Anderson, are Labour MPs, giving the Government a built-in advantage. Three are Tory and one Liberal Democrat.

On successive occasions Mr Anderson's casting vote was needed to prevent the insertion of paragraphs that would have gone further than the final version published yesterday.

John Maples, a former shadow foreign secretary, sought repeatedly to inject greater scepticism about Mr Campbell's role in preparing the dossier.

2. Why are these Labour MP's trying to save Poodle's butt?
Are they afraid that if Poodle is booted out, that they will lose their majority in Parliament? I thought Labour had such a large majority that they could withstand the loss of Blair.

3. Republicans in Congress - take note!
When the truth hits the fan they too will have to explain why they covered for Bush.

4. the way these bastards close ranks to protect their own is disgusting....
Even when they will quietly undercut him later. They haven't the guts to call Blair out publically, or bring down his government. I'm sorry-- I realize that this is probably the beginning of the end for the poodle, but IF he goes, they're going to let him go out with a whimper, and some dignity intact. Aaarrgghh!!!
