Bush declares emergency in 9 more states
http://www.klfy.com/Global/story.asp?S=3833103

WHITE HOUSE President Bush has declared a state of emergency in nine more states which are housing victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The declaration opens the door for those states to federal relief funding. The measure indicates that such funding should go to things that save lives or protect public health or safety.

Today's declarations affect the states of: Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and South Dakota.

Bush declares emergency in Texas, Arkansas

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- President Bush declared a state of emergency Friday for the states of Texas and Arkansas, both expected to be inundated with refugees from Hurricane Katrina.

The declaration allows federal assistance to state and local agencies in all 254 counties in Texas and 75 in Arkansas, the White House press office said.

The president spent the day touring hurricane-ravaged areas in Mississippi and Louisiana. As he left the White House, he called the response to Katrina unacceptable.

Thousands of people, mainly from New Orleans, have already fled or been evacuated to Texas, with 13,000 now living in the Houston Astrodome. While the Astrodome was earmarked for evacuees from the New Orleans Superdome, Red Cross officials said Thursday that they were taking in everyone who showed up, including some people who had hitchhiked from the Gulf Coast.

Public health emergency declared in Texas
Associated Press

SPECIAL REPORT:

SAN ANTONIO — The nation's top health official today declared a public health emergency in Texas, saying it would speed up federal assistance for the state as it contends with almost 240,000 evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.

Mike Leavitt, Health and Human Services secretary, made the announcement after he, Gov. Rick Perry and local leaders toured San Antonio's emergency shelters on the former Kelly Air Force Base.

"It will allow us to move the red tape and any roadblock out of the way in order to serve people," Leavitt said of the declaration.

Leavitt ticked off a long list of needs for those displaced when the violent storm struck a week ago — health care, housing assistance, child care, education and more."

We have a winner.

All they have to do is keep moving evacuees around. Bush declares and emergency, and minimum wage laws in all those states are history.

12. I'm from Pennsylvania and didn't realize that we had that many evacuees.

In fact, Pittsburgh made arrangements to house evacuees, who were supposed to arrive last week. Apparently they decided that they didn't want to go that far north and away from their families. The city is still on standby, just in case.

I believe Philadelphia is housing evacuees, most of whom have relatives there.

Santorum is scared shitless about losing his Senate seat next year. Bush is probably trying to score points for poor little foot-in-mouth Ricky.

13. Nothing sinister about this at all
These aren't give-aways, they are the usual and proper procedures to follow in the wake of a natural disaster.

It's the least he can do as President.

Well, actually, the least he could do was to ignore the situation as it developed, but he already did that. Following the pro forma steps is what he's doing now. We wouldn't want our dear boy to actually do anything challenging, now, would we?

14. Actually, no U. S. states have ever been declared a "disaster area"....
...without actually suffering an actual disaster in the form of tornado, flood, hurricane, etc.

They ARE definitely financial give-aways designed to prop up the eroding base of his political support.

There is NO precedents for this kind of action of the part of a REAL elected president, much less Herr Busch, the unelected NeoCon Junta Dictator.

15. There has never been disaster like it
Over 500,000 people are being displaced by Katrina -- perhaps as many as a million.

The rules for declaring disasters are designed to relieve the pressure on the survivors and the states that take care of them. So it's appropriate to let the other states operate under those same rules.

However, those rules are supposed to be strictly enforced. I doubt that they ever were. It's all the more important that they be followed with this disaster -- and that's where the cronyism is going to seep in.

The difference between a real president, and pResident Bush, is that a real president would have resettlement plans drawn up in detail. Clinton was doing this, and the Republicans were on him like a diaper. Check out some of the conspiracy websites about FEMA planning under the Clinton administration. Selective quoting and paranoid thinking would lead you to believe Clinton was planning to run death camps.

Bush, on the other hand, is obviously going for the quick fix, and lots of goodies for his friends in business to feast on, all at taxpayer expense. And they're federal, so all fifty states can be part of the larceny.

Funnily enough, evidence has surfaced this week about financial shenanigans with the 9-11 fund(s). Hmmm ...

16. This makes me extraordinarily nervous.
A state of EMERGENCY in the other states?

Really? Emergency?

See, a state of "things'll be tight fer awhile, gotta get along and help each other out, here's some money" I can see.

But emergency?

The old tin-foil hat's squeezin' me brain right about now. Anyone wants to comfort me on this, I'll be up in my treehouse, warding off the mindrays from the Pentagon. :D

Cheney Orders STRATCOM To Prepare Nuclear Attack Against Iran

A number of political observers and activists today sounded a red alert' after reports surfaced this week Vice President Dick Cheney directly ordered Strategic Command (STRATCOM) to make contingency plans for a nuclear strike against Iran in the aftermath of another 9/11 type attack' on America.

Cheney's orders first surfaced in an article by Philip Geraldi in the Aug 1, 2005, issue of The American Conservative. Geraldi was unavailable for comment, but excerpts of the article went on to say:

Vice President Cheney's office has specifically told the Pentagon that the military should be prepared for an attack on Iran in the immediate aftermath of "another 9-11." That's "not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States," notes Geraldi's article.

The statement was then distributed widely over the internet as a number of political observers have issued world wide" warning statements," declaring Cheney's order to be interpreted as sounding the bell for World War III."

In response to Cheney's order, outspoken political activist and former candidate for U.S. President, Lyndon La Rouche, Wednesday issued a world wide" internet warning covering the time period of August 2005, saying:

Vice President Dick Cheney, with the full collusion of the circles of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, to unleash the recently exposed plans to stage a preemptive tactical nuclear strike against Iran.

The danger of such a mad, Hitler-in-the-bunker action from the Cheney circles would be even further heightened, were the United States Congress to stick with its present schedule, and go into recess on July 30 until September 4. With Congress out of Washington, the Cheney-led White House would almost certainly unleash a "Guns of August" attack on Iran."

In the warning distributed widely throughout the world on July 27, LaRouche based his alarming assessment on a series of factors reported to him over the recent days, beginning with the qualified report, from a former U.S. intelligence official, published in the American Conservative magazine.

The report claims that Cheney already ordered the Strategic Command to prepare contingency plans for a conventional and tactical nuclear strike against hundreds of targets in Iran, in the event of a "new 9/11-style attack" on the United States.

And as reported several months ago, La Rouche said the Bush Administration, under CONPLAN 8022, had already placed the relevant "mini-nukes" under the control of theater military commanders, as part of a new Global Strike doctrine, a doctrine originally conceived when Dick Cheney was Secretary of Defense under George H.W. Bush in the early 1990s.

The recent bombings in London have provided Tony Blair with his own "Reichstag fire" incident, and the full resources of the British "liberal imperial" faction can now be expected to weigh in behind the brutish Cheney circles in Washington, added La Rouche.

The most compelling evidence of this "Guns of August" plan in discussions I've had with colleagues is the pattern of eyewitness reports of Dick Cheney's state of mind. Cheney is living out an American version of "Hitler in the bunker," lashing out at Republican Senators who have dared to resist his mad tirades, accusing anyone who fails to follow his orders including senior members of the United States Senate of being "traitors" and worse."

19. While some other states
haven't been as hard hit with evacuees, the state of emergency definately makes sense in the case of AK, TX, AL, and FL.

These states have been absolutely innundated. Beyond housing costs (the Astrodome isn't free), you have increased police, postal service, education, etc. expenditures.

It maybe a first, but its a first that (for this admin) makes sense.
