'New Species' of Terrorist Threatens Kabul
KABUL, Afghanistan - A "new species" of well-trained terrorist has infiltrated Afghanistan (news - web sites)'s capital, posing an increasing threat to the already shaky security situation in the country, the head of an international peacekeeping force said.

According to intelligence reports, the militants come from Saudi Arabia, Yemen or the Russian republic of Chechnya (news - web sites), Lt. Gen. Goetz Gliemeroth, commander of the 5,000-strong NATO (news - web sites)-led International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, said on Tuesday.

The increasing threats to Afghanistan's security also affect its porous border with Pakistan. The Pakistan army recently launched large scale raids on the ultraconservative Waziristan region to crackdown on Taliban and al-Qaida insurgents, while coalition forces operated on the Afghan side of the border to trap the insurgents. Pakistan said eight suspected al-Qaida operatives were killed and 18 others captured, but it did not disclose identities or nationalities.

1. This just shows us that the so called "war on terror"
is a huge farce. If our "president" really wanted to fight a war
on terror he would have stayed the course in Afghanistan, and left
Iraq alone. As it is, things are really spinning out of control.

7. Newspeak
"new species" takes away any possible reference to them being human. It gives the insinuation of them being unhuman, rather bug-like.

4. Just Wondering about Bush's so-called War on Terror...
At what point does this global free-for-all technically devolve into an unmanageable world war?

I'm getting the feeling lately that things are already out of hand. The neocons have opened Pandora's Box.

5. New Species my ARSE!

The CIA helped set up this pipeline in the first place, and in fact this is what gave birth to Al Qaeda! The only thing NEW about it is Chechnyan militants (hey wait, I though they were the good guys???) are among the mix.

The propaganda is getting weaker and weaker. Do you think they have run out of ideas?

6. What a terrible position this places me in!

Part of me wants everything the junta does to be a failure. That part wants the opposition in iraq to force out bush's army, and the same on the afghan front.

Then another part of me says that those are our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives. To hope that the bush plans are thwarted means that our families will die and face lifelong disabilities.

This is the definition of a dilemna. The answer is to oppose bush, but demand our troops are brought home.
