US Faces Challenge Raising Money for Iraq
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 09:18 AM by Beetwasher
Expectations Are Low at Madrid Donors Conference

MADRID, Spain, Oct. 23 — U.S. and Iraqi officials pleaded for billions to rebuild Iraq at a donors conference that opened Thursday with calls for generosity and warnings that they might not get all they need right away.--snip--

In London, a British aid group charged Thursday that the U.S.-run body governing Iraq has failed to account for billions of dollars allocated for rebuilding the country.--snip--

Comment: Ahhh, the masters of low expectations! What a way to build confidence in prospective donors! Lose billions of dollars but ask for more! Just what donors want to hear, "just remember, there's two "L's" in Halliburton...

1. I hope NO money is given unless and until the US (Bush's thugs) has NO
access to it. A totally independent agency needs to be set up, through the UN, to distribute any monies that would be given and contracts for the rebuilding would give Iraqi bids preference over any others.

2. they can't account for the money they've been given thus far
and yet they want people to pony up billions more. There's just something wrong with that. :eyes:

3. Let them sell yellow cake!
You know, have a bake sale. Or a lemmingade* stand. Or take donations at a Humvee wash.

Maybe a telethon on Fox with Barbara Bush interviewing little kids from Baghdad who need prosthetic limbs. The celebrity phone bank could have Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly and Paula Zahn (to name but a few) taking the pledges.

Come on, lads! There's no need to go hat in hand round the world. Pull yerselves up by yer bootstraps. There ain't nothin' wrong here that a little good old Murkin In-juh-NOO-tee won't fix!

4. It Will Be Difficult
4 Billion missing now with no accountability and ShrubCo asking for more with no accountability? I think the more challenging part will for our misadministration officals to find their brains after they manage to extract their heads out of their butts.
