Ensign won't return controversial donation
WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., on Tuesday said he does not intend to return campaign contributions he received from David Safavian, a former Bush administration official arrested Sept. 19 for allegedly making false statements and obstructing a federal investigation.

Ensign received $4,372 from Safavian in seven donations from May 1997 to November 1999, according to Federal Election Commission.

Ensign also received a $300 donation on March 27, 1998 from Safavian's wife, Jennifer, who is chief counsel for oversight and investigations on the House Government Reform Committee.

"The money was already spent. How do you return it?" Ensign said. "That was the last campaign. That money is long gone."

1. How do you return it? ???????? Guess he doesn't have
enough in savings or his checking account to cover that amount? Sure, he doesn't. :sarcasm:

2. maybe he is broke??? He was the one who went to NOLA to rescue
animals ...he's a vet. I think his attitude is extremely cavalier about this measly $4,000 plus donation. He needs to return it. But I guess fundies don't have to. He's a mormon as far as I can recall...

7. I knew John Ensign in vet school, don't know if he's Mormon, but
I DO KNOW that I considered him to be a "little bit too slick" even them. He was a bigtime brown-noser, and not very bright when compared to his peers. His family is into the Vegas gambling scene in a BIG way, I think they built and/or owned the places at stateline south of Vegas (Whiskey Pete's/Cactus Kate's?) and he only practiced vet medicine for a few years before going to the casinos to be the guy in charge of the money. Family money paid for his vet hospital that he built just a couple years out of school. I think the vet thing was mainly to pad his resume and make him look human.

Financial hanky-panky on the part of the good senator Ensign??? From your lips to God's ears.

6. Besides, he no longer has the same bills.
He deposited those hundreds, fifties, twenties and tens in the bank, and there's almost no way they can retrieve them all now to return. Once he had made that deposit, that money was gone.

He's right. There's no way to return money once it gets spent; wouldn't be the same money.

5. Ah, how these words do warm my cold and cynical heart...
...a former Bush administration official arrested...

I just hope the trend continues.
