GOP Attorneys General asked firms for cash
http://www.traviscountydemocrats.com/fullstory.php?artid=1778&db=current_issues

WASHINGTON, July 17 -- Republican state attorneys general in at least six states telephoned corporations or trade groups subject to lawsuits or regulations by their state governments to solicit hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions, according to internal fund-raising documents obtained by The Washington Post.

The attorneys general mentioned in the documents, including former Texas Attorney General John Cornyn, who is now a U.S. senator, were all members of the Washington-based Republican Attorneys General Association. The companies they solicited included some of the nation's largest tobacco, pharmaceutical, computer, energy, banking, liquor, insurance and media concerns.

1. If Cronyn were a Democrat
he would be forced to resign and a new election held.

The Democratic governor of California will have to undergo a recall simply because the Republicans robbed the state. He didn't do anything faintly illegal.

This could be bigger than you think, and I'd love to see a Repuke TX Senator have to resign over this. Wouldn't you?

4. Ah, But you've forgotten the rules
Now that the Republicans are in power, if there's no indictment, there's no foul. If there's no foul, there can be no investigation, so therefore, no indictment.

Time to get with the program, Bushfire. (Of course, the rule for Democrats is, if there is the merest rumor, resignation is required)

Peace

5. Bill Pryor involved
What's even more explosive in this matter is the involvement of William Pryor, the right-wing extremist that Bush has nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Pryor has said he did not solicit money for RAGA, but recently revealed documents cast serious doubts on his statements. I heard about this on NPR last night and there's a story today in the WP:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A3050-2003Jul16.html?nav=hptop_tb

The senate judiciary committee had planned to hold a vote on his nomination today, but word now is that it's being postponed till this is checked out.

Just an avalanche of bad news for the arrogant Repugs over the past week. It's way past due.
