NBC News to 'embed' with Democratic candidates
VNU Emedia

NBC News has created an "embedding" program to cover the Democratic presidential campaign based on the method the Pentagon set up to cover the Iraqi war by assigning nine reporters to cover each candidate as one-man bands, primarily for MSNBC and MSNBC.com. The plan is geared toward exploiting NBC's broadcast, cable, and Web platforms, although the reporters appear on MSNBC with live reports and campaign footage from their Sony mini-cams. They will also support NBC News by keeping producers and reporters prepared for their periodic ventures into the campaign trail ---

1. I remember when...
Each presidential candidate had their own network news reporter assigned only to THEIR campaign. That stopped about 20 years ago, coinciding, I think, with the overall decline in quality of coverage of presidential campaigns in general, and primary campaigns in particular. I'm glad they're bringing them back--if only those reporters won't be there to hound candidates with barrages of negativity and simply make THEMSELVES, not the candidates, the news!

B-)

2. Dangerous Duty
If any candidate starts to look like he has a chance and I were the reporter who had to fly with him I would triple my insurance and ask for combat pay.

3. This must be wrong

I think we will discover it will be the Democrats who are embedded into the media-run election.

5. For some reason that expression, "embedded" always
sounds incestuous to me.

6. So basically they're saying they're covering the campaign?
How novel.

The big fights will come if one of the minor candidates turns into a front-runner and a big-name reporter wants to bump whoever has been assigned.

7. Remember the reporters assigned to Gore?
I see this as a stealth tactic to diss all of the Democratic candidates. DON'T TRUST 'EM.

NBC to Assign Embeds to Cover Candidates

NEW YORK (AP)--NBC News said Wednesday it would assign ``campaign embeds,'' a person who will be both a reporter and camera operator, to follow each of the nine Democratic candidates for president.

The network's coverage plan is inspired, in part, by ``Journeys with George,'' the film made by Alexandra Pelosi, a former NBC News producer, about her experience following President Bush's campaign in 1999 and 2000.

The film often showed the future president's goofy side and provided a window into what it's like to cover a campaign.

:puke:

Let's hope our Dems are more media savvy than the Boy-King.

ON EDIT: Ack! I just looked at that link! They put the story in the entertainment section. This is going to turn into a great big Dem-bashing reality show. Ack ack ack!
