Sen. Clinton seeks 'conservative' budget policy
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sparred with Senate Republicans Wednesday in a Christmas-themed fight featuring Dr. Seuss, a manger in Bethlehem and her call for a return to "conservative" budget values.

Clinton, D-N.Y., said Republicans are behaving like the Grinch of the popular children's book by making student loans more costly, making health care more costly for the poor and scaling back enforcement of child support. She then invoked the biblical story of Joseph and Mary searching for shelter in Bethlehem, saying Republican budget priorities are likewise turning away working families and poor children.

"We're shutting out and leaving behind a lot of our children with these budget decisions. It's wrong. It's wrong to reward special interests who can do perfectly fine for themselves (and) slam the door on foster children who need all kinds of help to even have a chance in life," Clinton said in a speech on the Senate floor.

.......

"It's time that we go back to arithmetic and reality, we go back to a conservative fiscal policy that pays as you go (and) doesn't spend what you don't have," she said.

2. Letter to the editor of NTY a while ago:
It used to be if you wanted the budget balanced it made you a conservative. Now it makes you a liberal.

8. Which amounts, no matter how you spin it, to
tricking people. Is that what progressive stand for? I don't think so. That's the Idiot's territory. What I think is that this apparent pragmatism is disgusting and an insult to the principles, and the real people, liberals are supposed to advocate and fight for.

9. Don't call it "conservative"...call it "responsible"
The Spend and Spend some more Republicans have no clue what fiscal responsibility means. It's not just about making responsible budget choices (i.e, NOT spending 500 billion on ill advised invasions) but also about being responsible for the well being of the American people who are most in need.

10. That sounds good.
The Republicans do indeed know what fiscal responsibility is.

The problem is they want the government so broke(n) that it can be fixed by eliminating every program that is helpful to the common person.

13. you ever stop to think that
maybe with Hillary rasing this issue this will keep the repugs off balance just long enough for them not to call for a constitutional amendment against burning the flag. Hey, even if there were a bill passed, it can always be over-turned later, but a constitutional amendment ratified by the states. No way.... so cut Hillary a lil slack on this issue. Besides she has the best political mind on her side in WJC.....ps: I think she has something besides this and I will wait and give her the benefit....

14. Flag burning isn't an issue with most voters
Most Americans don't care about flag burning. Your tactic is a bad one. I will not cut Hillary some slack. I will work against her in 2008 because of her pandering to the psychotic conservatives and because she refuses to apologize for the unnecessary war that she voted for. I honestly hope her Republican opponent wins if she becomes the nominee in 2008. I would vote for Senator Hagel, Republican of Nebraska, before I would vote for her.
