Survey finds Hawaii voters support smoking ban
Most Hawaii voters say they believe smoking should be banned in all enclosed public spaces.

That's according to a recent survey of 605 registered island voters that was done by The Coalition for a Tobacco Free Hawaii.

It found that 85 percent of respondents agreed that Hawaii needs a statewide law prohibiting smoking in restaurants, bars and offices.

1. OK ban smoking
Now how about the real issues like inferior public education, environmental pollution, lack of health care, etc.?

2. Actually indoor smoking is a REAL BAD PROBLEM
in Hawaii

Granted education is as well... but bra surf's up... and in some of the islands the locals don't like any of them howlie teachers putting ideas into the heads of their kids... and I am not kidding here... oh yes the friendly Isle comes to mind in particular, a place that has a record for running teachers out of town.

3. Sigh. Here's the correct way to go about a smoking ban.

You simply pass air quality standards and strictly enforce them. It's a no brainer: some places the air isn't suitable for breathing with or without smokers. This gets them all. And if some genious comes up with a system to keep air quality above the set standard even when smoking is allowed in the building -- who can complain then? Just phase in standards by industry and there won't be much financial pain.

I don't know why people don't get this. Oh wait. I do know why. They care more about "getting back at" smokers for some childhood trauma than they do about making the air the workers, or they themselves, breath cleaner.

4. In El Paso TX the Ban Increased restaurant and tavern participation
the said it would ruin the economy, but no one wanted to go to a restaurant and put up with smokers and come home stinking of tobacco.. the opposite actually happened to what the tobacco propaganda said would when they passed the bill

5. I guess they are tired of European & Asian tourists
Those tourist dollars may be ending up elsewhere..

I wonder if they will get to re-vote when people working in the tourist industry start getting laid off..

Seriously, Hawaii would be anicer looking place if 3/4 of those ugly high-rise hotels were bulldozed..

Aloha..

Careful what you wish for :)

6. What a bunch of crap!
1. this trash was put out by Kaiser Permanente, th worst health care provider in the islands.

2. We already have a law against smoking in restaurants & enclosed places. Many places here are open air, & that's why people can smoke in those areas.

3. It's not "Howlie" it's "haole."

4. We have the cleanest air of any state.

5. Yeah, we have tall buildings in Honolulu. It's a major city, & if people don't like tall buildings, go elsewhere. On Kauai buildings can't be higher than palm trees.

6. Richmond isn't the best place to get Hawaii news.
