Democrats blast Bush comment on pending legal case

CAPITOL HILL Senate Democrats say President Bush appears to using a double standard.

They are sharply critical of his comment that he believes former House Minority Leader Tom DeLay is innocent of the money-laundering charges he faces. He made that statement yesterday on Fox News.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, a former prosecutor, says it's hard to believe the president is prejudging a case.

Democrats say that since the president spoke about that case, he should also reveal what he knows about the investigation into who leaked the identity of a C-I-A officer.

...

The White House says the president was employing "presidential prerogative" when he commented on the DeLay case.

32. Refusal to comment = B** involvement. "Innocent" = "It wasn't me!"
I think he blabbed on Delay cause he wasn't part of it. He knows he has to keep quiet about Plamegate bacause he's in it up to his neck.

2. It really is unbelievable
When Nixon commented that Charles Manson was guilty during his trial, the judge almost had to order a mistrial.

This is not presidential prerogative. This is an outrageous overstepping of bounds. The President had not reviewed the evidence in the case and he has no right to poison the jury pool in contravention of the legal processes guaranteed to the people of the State of Texas.

It's a scandalous overstepping of bounds.

9. Bush should be subpoenaed to give
any evidence that he might have leading him to that conclusion. There is no way that he could then survive the subsequent perjury charge.

He's more thuggish than Bobby Brown.

Dubya's the one who made up the phrase, "Crack is whack!" He just followed it with, "I prefer only the best nose candy myself."

The truth is what chimpy says it is - reality is inconsequential. Hopefully he'll learn how off he is in this situation where he has little influence.

31. Scott McClellan's ultimate explanation of Presidential prerogative
Press: "Can you please explain what you mean by 'Presidential prerogative'? How is it that the President justifies commenting on one ongoing legal case while refusing to comment on another?"

McClellan: "Cuz"

Press: "Can you please elaborate on that explanation and provide us with some context for that answer?"

McClellan: "No, just cuz"
