Report of NSA Spying Prompts Call for Probe

A key Republican committee chairman put the Bush administration on notice Friday that his panel would hold hearings into a report that the National Security Agency eavesdropped without warrants on people inside the United States.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said he would make oversight hearings by his panel next year "a very, very high priority."

"There is no doubt that this is inappropriate," said Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican and chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Other key bipartisan members of Congress also called on the administration to explain and said a congressional investigation may be necessary.

1. By all means lets get Mr. "Magic Bullet "JFK cover-up Specter on it.
He'll be sure to make it go no where fast.

2. Must be tough to be speaking up for the Patriot Act one day, claiming
that safeguards are in place so it can't be abused - then the next day they put this story out, things being abused even without the Patriot Act.

3. The NSA was the worst thing Truman ever did
and by signing it into being, origianlly chartered as a listening service that would monitor the Red Menace, he gave rise to a shadow government that is accountable to no one and which has been poisoning foreign policy ever since. Consider the alumns of the agency, Rice and Ollie North. Consider that they've used one branch of the CIA (the "cowboy" branch) as their private army, funded by slush funds and drug trafficking.

I doubt this spy program against patriotic American citizens is anything new. The only new thing is that a few people have finally noticed it.

8. I've been saying the same thing for years now - the NSA
was ultimately the first blow against democracy. It destroyed the transparency of our goverment, created a blackbox budget and gave rise to the worst of the worst without oversight.

4. It's all falling apart
And it was supposed to be SOOOOOOOOO easy- a couple planes, a couple buildings, a few deaths, a few bombs, a little shockandawe, yell TERRA TERRA a few times, and the world would fall before them like a line of dominoes they'd been setting up for years. Where did it all go wrong?

Poor *bushie boy.

6. It is going wrong because some people value what is right more than money.

9. Considering he was an accomplice/participant in the JFK cover-up.
I wouldn't get those hopes up too much.
