Man Charged With Tossing Water Balloon at U.S. House Speaker
Man Charged With Tossing Water Balloon at U.S. House Speaker
The Associated Press
Published: Jul 8, 2003

DIXON, Ill. (AP) - A man attending a parade faces charges for tossing a water balloon at U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

John Allen, 33, is accused of throwing the balloon during the Dixon Petunia Festival parade. The balloon broke on an antique fire truck driven by Hastert, who got wet but was not injured.

Allen was arrested Sunday and was later charged with felony aggravated battery. He posted $25,000 bail on Monday and said in court he didn't know Hastert was driving the truck.

"He is third in line to the presidency of the United States. You won't forget it next time, will you?" asked Judge Tomas Magdich. (snip/...)

6. With Hastert he'll be shackled for Life/
His only hope is to appeal to Ashcroft that he was sick of nude statutes and people dancing. Ashcroft will spring him. What a useless piece of whatever Ashcroft has turned out to be. His major accomplishment will be shown as covering the breasts of a statue in DC. God, get these sicko republicans out of government. Half of them think the Taliban is their model example.

the difference in a gov't that has the power but does not yield it versus a dictatorship that takes any act of defiance as a threat to national security. Did the person that threw the egg get thrown in jail as well.

the "rasberry", complete with thumbs in ears and a vocal chant of "nah nah nah".

Sentencing is later today where it is expected they will all get the death penalty.

15. So, if he's so important,
why is he driving a freaking truck in a parade? Where's his secret service detail to prevent these "acts of aggression"?

These people are out of their freaking minds, charging this guy for throwing a water balloon! I hope the media turns this inside-out.

16. $25,000 bail!
WTF? Does this guy have a long record of felonious water balloon assaults that they would set bail so high? Is Hastert as afraid of melting as the wicked witch?

21. Leaders
The Secret Service is obligated to do all it can to protect our leaders -- even those that suck. For every case like this, they discourage others from throwing eggs, rocks or worse. The reality is that throwing objects at someone can injure them or cause an auto accident or whatever. All I care about is that this same level of security is evenly enforced for Dems as well.

24. hate crime
Psycho conservatives who rail at hate crime laws have no problem with "special laws for a few" when it comes to harming people other than gays or minorities. The reason you can get charged with such a serious crime for throwing a water balloon at the Speaker of the House is the same reason to charge people with "hate" crimes against others. Hypocrites. Liars. Thieves. Conservatives.
