On Hardblogger...

"Listening to the chatter from my perch on Capitol Hill makes it clear that the Democratic Party is in dire need of guidance. So here is a Republican’s humble suggestion on how to gain traction with the majority of American voters.

Hammer home these three themes over the next ten months.

1. There is a culture of corruption in Republican-run Washington.
2. There are record deficits, record debts and record government waste in Republican-run Washington.
3. Soldiers are dying across the world for reasons that are still not clear three years later.

Keep it simple, stupid. And tell Ted Kennedy to keep his head down in 2006."

Wow. I've never, ever agree with Joe. He's a dick. But on this one, I gotta agree with him.

KEEP IT SIMPLE.

5. Pile em high and then higher

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

7. Make that Five Dead...
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Five American servicemen were killed in Iraq in separate attacks, the U.S. military said Thursday, including three soldiers who died in a roadside bomb blast.

The soldiers were on patrol when the bomb exploded south of Baghdad. A fourth soldier died from wounds sustained in a small-arms fire attack in the capital's southwest, the military said. A U.S. Marine was fatally wounded during combat near the western city of Fallujah.

All five U.S. servicemen were killed Wednesday, the military said.

9. RIP Troops. More unnecessary deaths.
Isn't it amazing how republicans claim our troops want to stay in Iraq until the "job is done" (whatever that means). I'm still military and I don't know one soldier that was ever in combat that didn't want to be someplace else. Maybe they are talking about the generals that never leave the Green Zone. The troops that have to go out into town on a regular basis want to come home NOW! But the republicns want the war to go on forever because their client corporations are making a LOT of money. A LOT of that money returns to republican coffers too.

Republicans will never end this war. I'm starting to wonder if the Democrats will either. It will probably be WE THE PEOPLE that ends this war by taking to the streets.

Morale in our military is rock bottom, thanks to the incompetent leadership of Bush and Rumsfeld. I've been military for a long time and I've always been a liberal. I hope my fellow troops that formerly supported Bush have learned a lesson. The republicans consider you cannon fodder for their wars for corporate profits.

Bush cowtows to dictators and ignores the American People.

This tragedy will continue until we destroy the corporate cabal and punish them for their crimes.

16. Well, Rummy the Dummy did say that he couldn't explain the lull in
casualties and that they might pick up again. He just didn't know.

He is so blase about the deaths of American kids. Of course they aren't of 'their class' so it's not that big a deal.

20. They probably kept all the American
servicemen/women at their bases until after the State of the Union speech so there would be no bad news out of Iraq to overshadow Bush's moment of glory.

25. Even Savages Do Not Eat Their Children
This is what we have come to:

Midnight is the hour when men desperately seek to obey the eleventh commandment, "Thou shalt not get caught." According to the ethic of midnight, the cardinal sin is to be caught and the cardinal virtue is to get by. It is all right to lie, but one must lie with real finesse. It is all right to steal, if one is so dignified that, if caught, the charge becomes embezzlement, not robbery. It is permissible even to hate, if one so dresses his hating in the garments of love that hating appears to be loving. The Darwinian concept of the survival of the fittest has been substituted by a philosophy of the survival of the slickest. This mentality has brought a tragic breakdown of moral standards, and the midnight of moral degeneration deepens. MLK 1963
