Funeral for widow of civil rights leader scheduled for Tuesday

Friday, February 3, 2006 Posted: 0129 GMT (0929 HKT)

"ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Coretta Scott King will lie in repose Saturday in the rotunda of the Georgia Capitol in Atlanta, and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, according to a statement issued Thursday by the King family.

The public viewing at the Capitol for King, the widow of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., will be from noon to 8 p.m. ET, the statement said.

On Monday, King's body will be in public view at the original Ebenezer Baptist Church's Heritage Sanctuary from 10 a.m. to midnight.

She was a member of the church, the family said, and her husband co-pastored there with his father from 1960 until his assassination eight years later.

With all of the horrible things that the GA GOP is doing to GA now, this is a bright spot in my day.

God Bless Mrs. King. She was a truly great human being.

3. Good for you Cottonbear. Like I've said lately - she was the wife
of a "fore-father". The last great man to build the country. I'm glad you can go. We need those things to remind us that as tough as life is - you can find the strength to be a great person. That you can overcome. That to be in a fight for your country doesn't mean your life has to be diminished. That you can get more adult and deeper and live a more meaningful life every day you go out and try.

4. I'm less than 2 hours from Atlanta. We are honored she was a Georgian!

Mrs. King, MLK, Jimmy Carter, John Lewis and Max Cleland are among our great Georgians! Not to mention Rep. McKinney and Sen. Sam Nunn.

It's supposed to rain so I won't be able to work with my horse that day. I'm going to drive in early so I won't have to drive in the dark on the horrible Atlanta Interstates and highways. (very dangerous.)

The important thing to remember is that she spoke out against Vietnam before her husband and that she lead a march of 50,000 to protest for the rights of the working poor just days after Martin's death. Also, MLK was wiretapped by the US Government. All issues that are important today.

6. The horse is Coromino. He's my filly Cotton's sire! They are Oldenburgs!
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 11:20 PM by CottonBear
He is a champion Oldenburg stallion. Oldenburgs are a German warmblood breed which were bred as light carriage horses and riding horses by a Count Oldenburg in the 700s in Germany. Today, Oldenburgs are (Olympic) champions in jumping, hunter and driving competitions!

Here is a picture of Cotton. She's on the right standing next to her friend Magic ( a Holsteiner):

Here is Cotton as a baby yearling and foal:

She and her dad are really pretty! (I'm only a little biased.) ;)

7. Wow that is really striking. She looks like a baby. Those eyes. Huge.

The only horse I know is a Canadian favourite show-jumper "Big Ben". And the size difference is amazing. Okay - I know he was just out of the ordinary for a show jumper - a big huge tub or muscle. But that is what is imprinted on my mind.

They are so thin. Really gorgeous.

Here's my fav. Big Ben (RIP)17.3 hands. As Canadians we'd all laugh histerically as he managed jumps he had no business getting over. That man Miller, riding him, about 6 foot 4.

9. Big Ben is a Show Jumping Hero! Show Jumpers are amazing freaks!
Oldenburgs are quite tall: 16 to 17 hands on average! They are long and tall with a huge heart girth and amazing overall elegant confirmation!

Big Ben was an amazing athlete! It takes a BIG horse to carry sucha big rider!

Cotton loves to jump over things like logs and little jumps that I lead her to! Her dad is a Grand Prix jumper and she's inherited his form! I may have to hire a really good rider to show her at the higher levels! She could do those Grand Prix jumps! I'm a good amatuer rider but NO WAY can I do 5' jumps!

10. I know - it is insane. And dangerous. I never took lessons but I used
to go to a disreputable stable (they treated their horses nice but let you take whatever horse you wanted out alone). I was a fool. But loved to gallop - and the horses loved it too.

I never went anywhere near a log. Not even one lying on the ground.

Yes - very dangerous.
