Son of ex-President Carter seeks Nev. seat

KATHLEEN HENNESSEY
Associated Press

HENDERSON, Nev. - Democrat Jack Carter, the son of the former president, kicked off his U.S. Senate campaign Monday by calling for a return to "our American values."

Carter, a 58-year-old investment consultant in Las Vegas, is challenging incumbent Republican Sen. John Ensign in his first bid for elected office.

"The singular difference between the junior senator and me is he works for the Bush administration and I want to work for Nevada," Carter said at a union hall outside Las Vegas, accompanied by his parents, former President Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter.

"Common sense, honesty, integrity and a desire for good government. These are our American values," he said.

2. With that kind of name recognition
I think he'll win. If he's anything like his dad he'll be an asset to the party.

3. Carter isn't remembered for his presidency
But for what he did after he was president.

And that will give his son a huge boost.

4. If he's a chip off the ole block.. .
Jack Carter will be a breath of fresh air for the Democratic party.

I wish him the best of luck and am most grateful to see he's not pulling any punches with Ensign.. . Senator Reid and Senator Carter. . .the one-two-punch combination for Nevada!

11. Amy's the caboose by a number of years; her brothers were grown up
Amy's the caboose by a number of years; her brothers were grown up by the time Jimmy and Roslyn moved into the White House, and they had lives of their own outside of politics.

I'm glad to see Jack wants to help out in DC -- we sure need another Democrat now!

6. What a headline, did President Carter die?
Son of ex-President Carter seeks Nev. seat. Ex-President? Did President Carter die or divorce the US? Who writes their headlines anyway?

8. I met President Carter today
and his son is a chip off the ole block. Jack Carter is one of the most down to earth person I have ever met. His wife Elizabeth is a pistol, full of spunk and energy. I was fortunate enough to have them over for a breakfast in Dec. We had 18 people before anyone new he was really running. I've heard him speak at least 1/2 dozen times and he sounds better each time. Today making his Northern Nevada announcement in Carson City he was GREAT.
