Euro gas pipe 'hits UK consumer'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4683514.stm

UK consumers have paid an extra £300m for gas this winter because of problems with the European gas supply system, British Gas owner Centrica has said.
Centrica said a lack of competition had made it difficult to get enough gas to meet demand at peak times.

It added that the way gas contracts are currently structured - being linked to the price of oil - could cost European consumers as much as £40bn this year.

the finishing remark

"The very high wholesale prices are likely to continue for probably another 12 months, but after that they are likely to fall off a cliff," said Patrick Heron.

4. warning : with gas here is not meant gasoline...
besides it sounds being an UK problem (due to poor storage) more than a whole European. I haven't heard about dramatically increased prices for heating gas in France, Germany... etc... sofar.

5. Germans are angry about the high heating gas prices.
They made that gas very cheap five to three years ago and advertized all over that people should switch from oil to gas. Which a lot of people did. Then they upped the prices.

Our landlord switched from oil to gas three years ago. We make a monthly payment for heating and when the annual bill came after the switch for the first time ever we got money BACK! Alas, this year we got a very big bill - we had to pay more (in addition to the monthly payments) than ever before.
