Pope meets Laura Bush, says worried about terror
Pope Benedict received U.S. First Lady Laura Bush on Thursday and told her that he was worried about terrorism around the world and violence sparked by the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.

"He talked to me about the worries of terrorism, the worries right now about the violence in Beirut, Damascus and other cities," she told reporters after the meeting the Pope.

The Vatican has already condemned the cartoons.

The Pope told Mrs Bush that he hoped her stay in Italy for the start of the winter Olympics would be peaceful.

3. Maybe it's a cryptic message to * to "knock it off".

2. While I am not crazy about the new pope
I must commend him for saying these things to Laura Bush. She needs to hear these words. I doubt she'll listen though.

Pope Benedict's final words to her I find to be somewhat disturbing ...
"I hope your stay in Italy will be peaceful" ... *eek*

9. Laura only hears what she want too, in the context that she
wants to hear. She indeed thinks that the Pope is sharing his concerns with her half-wit husband.

"I hope your stay in Italy will be peaceful" as like being in the haunted house and the crazy organ music is driving one mad, mad mad.....

11. frankly, Pope Benedict has not done a whole lot of anything
just carried on with the usual mantras that you heard before. However, he is certainly no Pope John Paul II who was against the war in Iraq and told * "You go to Iraq you go without God!".

Too bad * didn't listen.

Pope Benedict is an interim pope IMO and sort of a lame duck. He could never match up to Pope JP II and he knows it.

13. True enough
Though the way a lot of folks around here are talking, you'd think he was a founding member of PNAC, or at least pocketed the slavers' profits after selling off the Children's Crusade. That's hardly warranted, either.

7. Pope John Paul II was worried about the War
and torture - this ex-Hitler Youth is worried about terror and NOT the War and Torture.

Symbolic of what has become of the Catholic Church today. (Or - Why I am No Longer a Catholic.)

8. Spot on.
JP2 spoke out against the Iraq War and was shocked by Abu Ghraib, I guess Benny doesn't mind it.
