U.S. hostage Carroll appears in new video

KUWAIT, Feb 9 (Reuters) - A private Kuwaiti satellite television station said on Thursday that it had received a new video showing American hostage Jill Carroll who is being held in Iraq.

The station, Al Rai TV, said it would air the video at 2100 GMT. It said Carroll looked healthy and was wearing a headscarve.

She said that she had written a letter confirming she was being held by what she called the mujahideen in Iraq and appealed for help in meeting their demands. She did not elaborate.

21. No.
Sometimes we shoot them. Or starve them. Or cut them off from basic medical services.

Just for variety, you know.

33. That is such a great point.
I know there's a handful of philosophers who make a distinction between deliberate and inadvertent killing, but they're probably in the pay of the White House! Can I get an Amen?

the kidnappers death. Hell, sounds like a plan to me.

her by a dead line, and they didn't, so maybe there is some hope they won't.

15. This seems very fishy...
I have gotten very suspicious of some of these "kidnappings" ever since they found some marked ransom money
with one of the released hostages. I think she was german.

Does anybody here have some more details on that incident?

20. In this case, Carroll's friend/interpreter was shot dead and left in the
street like a dog. Are you suggesting Carroll was complicit in her own kidnapping and his murder?

According to some RW'ers, Carroll's just been having a good old time making videos for Al Jazeera and hasn't been kidnapped at all. They also fail to note the cold blooded murder of her friend.

16. Kidnapped U.S. Reporter Appeals for Help (Carroll)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Kidnapped American journalist Jill Carroll appeared in a video aired Thursday on a private Kuwaiti TV station, appealing for her supporters to do whatever it takes to win her release "as quickly as possible."

Carroll, talking in a calm, composed voice and wearing traditional Arab attire, said the date was Feb. 2, nearly a month after she was seized in Baghdad by armed men who killed her Iraqi translator. She was shown sitting on a chair in front of a wall with a large floral design.

The 28-year-old freelance reporter for The Christian Science Monitor said she had sent one letter and was sending another to "prove I am with the mujahedeen."

"I sent you a letter written by my hand, but you wanted more evidence," she said. "I am here. I am fine. Please just do whatever they want, give them whatever they want as quickly as possible. There is very short time. Please do it fast. That's all."

32. Remember Marla Ruzicka
Marla Ruzicka, 28, of Lakeport (Lake County), founder
of CIVIC -- Campaign for Innocent Victims of Conflict
-- died with her driver on the Baghdad Airport road
when a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of security
contractors that was passing next to her vehicle.

Chronicle reporter Rob Collier, who has seen Ruzicka's work abroad, described her
as charming and driven, "making friends of journalists, military officers, aid workers
and government officials."

She was trying to get a precedent set where militaries pay for civilian victims.

"She mooned the president," her mother said. "The back of her underpants
said, 'Public Power Now.' When she turned back around, the president
looked her in the face -- he was only about a foot away -- and said, 'Cute.' "

23. Every indication is..
... that she is a good journalist, nominally interested in helping the Iraqis, and certainly she worked for one of the few media outlets I trust implicitly, the Christian Science Monitor.

I hope they find it in their hearts to release her.

26. "sources close to the kidnappers." Poppy?
Sources close to the kidnappers told the
private TV channel earlier Friday that
Carroll is "in a safe house owned by one of
the kidnappers in downtown Baghdad with
a group of women," Jassem Boudai told
The Associated Press.

Boudai said Al Rai had received a message
from "sources close to the kidnappers." He
said the message was not conveyed in a
video tape, but "another method." He
declined to how it was received and
whether the message was delivered to Al
Rai's head office in Kuwait or its bureau in
Baghdad where Thursday's video of Carroll
was received.

He said the kidnappers have "more specific demands
than releasing all women from jail,"
but he refused to disclose these demands, reports AP.

Why can't they see this??

Killing innocents just helps the warmongers with their propaganda.

30. And what does Jill Carroll know? -previously unknown-
Working for the Christian Science Monitor, Carroll
had arranged to meet Adnan al-Doulaimi, a Sunni
politician, when she was abducted and her interpreter was killed.

Reporters Without Borders (RWB) held a demonstration in Paris on
Tuesday to mark the 30th day of captivity for American freelance
journalist Jill Carroll, who was kidnapped in Baghdad by the previously
unknown group Revenge Brigade on January 7. According to RWB, 37 journalists,
including eight women, have been abducted in Iraq since March of 2003,
and five have been killed.

Cynthia McKinney's Home Vandalized

Tuesday, January 31, 2006
By: Michael Ivey

Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) found her front yard "toilet papered" with
VCR tape Sunday when she returned from promoting her new documentary
'American Blackout' at the Sundance Film Festival.
"Obviously, someone wants to send a message that they know where I
live and can have access to my front yard to do unkind things,"
she said. The crime was reported to local police.
