Wheelchair maker to cut 225 jobs in Elyria
ELYRIA, Ohio - Invacare Corp., which makes health care equipment including wheelchairs, plans to cut 225 jobs at a northeast Ohio plant.
The Elyria jobs, both managers and blue-collar workers, will be eliminated over the next several months, Invacare said Monday.
Invacare blamed cheap foreign labor and reduced federal reimbursement for health care equipment for seniors.

~snip~ Some plant work will be shifted to two plants near Shanghai, China.

Ohio keeps getting hit so hard with job loss........soon, it'll be a ghost town.

2. Even with food lines and no jobs people
continue to vote for Republicans. Even when things get so bad, there will be no FDR Democrat to save the day because the Democratic party has moved very far from those ideals that government can and should be used as a force to help people rather than corporations.

4. God, I hate that line " work will be shifted to Shanghai."
If the Chinese had marched into Alaska and down into the lower 48 and destroyed our nation we would have resisted. Now, because corporations are destroying America it's OK.

7. I live in NE Ohio, near this city as a matter of fact . .
Pretty much ALL of Lorain County is a "ghost town". Dilapidated buildings, hulking empty brick factories and warehouses, shitty roads . . . undeserving of a blue county such as Lorain's, but this is what happens when you don't want to pay your employees a fair wage. Business Lesson #1: SELL more than you BUY. The rich and the neoclowns they fund attempt to get the middle class to suck the Free Market tits like a john to a Prospect Ave. whore, and sadly enough, these new "Reagan Democrats" buy into it while their towns and schools regress to a weed-infested, uninhabitable plain. The New Feudalism is and will be leaving countless more cities such as this in it's wake.

Seriously, what does one DO about the Corporations? Your REAL enemy isn't wearing a sheet, turban or camo - he's dressed in a $3000 suit and he's laughing his fat stogie-sucking ass off at all of us.

8. HughBeaumont.....this is so sad....

there are probably many Lorain counties across the country...because of the existing policies of this administration. It's almost as if * wants to move all American industries to other countries. They are busting the union movement as we speak so they can lower wages, remove health care responsibility from employers.

When are the Dems going to paint these companies and corporations as traitors to the US. When will these companies be betrayed as selling out the American population?

When will the government offer incentives for these companies to keep the business and the jobs here in America?

How do we get the message out that American towns and cities are dying?

10. I imagine it's bad all over.
My dad lives in Vermilion, about 20 minutes away from Elyria. They're part of the same deal - Ford and Lithonia Downlighting closed their plants here and it's KILLING property values. Someone recently made an offer on his house, which is worth around $180,000, of $115,000. That's not only stupid, that's an insult. 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, jacuzzi bathroom, two-car attached garage, deck, finished and waterproofed basement, near schools, near a pool . . . but because it's unfortunately in this newly-created wasteland, he can't GIVE it away now.

9. what to do to corporations
Don't buy their products if they offshore their production. Buy locally made products; buy used, recycled, reused, refurbished products. Never, ever buy full price. look for clearence products. End their money flow.

We can't afford "new" anyway, so like many on fixed incomes, we support local stores, even if they are thrift shops.

13. I'm using an Invacare wheelchair! Arrrggghh!
Great, now getting parts will be a lot of fun. I hope the VAMC has spares in stock.

Now I wonder if the VA will continue to buy Invacare or if it will pick up another American-Made wheelchair?

Guess it's time to upgrade to a TiLite wheelchair.
