A group of Republican Congress members will release a report Wednesday that sharply criticizes the Bush administration's handling of the hurricanes that hit the nation's Gulf Coast last year.

"The White House was clearly in a fog," Shays said. "Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, was clearly detached. He didn't even go to New Orleans 'til Wednesday; then you have (FEMA Director Michael Brown), who was clueless and negligent."

2. Let's not forget the fog on 9/11.
Although a very successful PR campaign has convinced most of the American public otherwise.

6. I always have my guard up when reading of repubs going after bush
I don't trust 'em, and I can't help wondering if they aren't just trying to "get in front" of things, moving into position for a whitewash.

4. No, actually Bush was out doing photo -ops having b-day cake
with McCain and raising money. He could have cared less about what was going on. He delegated his responsibility to other incompetents.

8. Agreed. Bush was not clueless and in a fog.
He was deliberately out playing a guitar, eating cake and thumbing his nose at the people suffering in NOLA.

7. Wow...this was issued by Republicans! I've been wondering when
someone was going to mention Chertoff regarding Katrina. So, now that they've issued this report, what are they going to do about it?

Katrina Report Says That Disaster Shows Country Is Unprepared for the Worst

Feb. 14, 2006 — - A group of Republican Congress members will release a report Wednesday that sharply criticizes the Bush administration's handling of the hurricanes that hit the nation's Gulf Coast last year.

According to portions of the draft obtained by ABC News, the report charges Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff with executing his responsibilities "late, ineffectively or not at all."

12. Eating cake? Playing guitar? Buying shoes? Going to dinner? Buying houses?
Those were what Bush, Condi, Brown, and Cheney were doing while New Orleans drowned.

11. In my opinion, there was no fog...BushCo had absolute clarity...
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 10:15 AM by TwoSparkles
...about what they were--and were NOT doing.

They did this intentionally. They were not confused, or disorganized or unaware.

The neocons despise FEMA. In the past several years, they've openly stated that FEMA is a wasteful government agency that gives out too much money to undeserving people. They don't want to help people. They have contempt for people who aren't wealthy and unable to drive away from a hurricane in their $50,000 SUV. Make no mistake, they loathe those poor people who need help. They detest weakness.

Yes, Brown was unqualified and unprepared. The man was in over hid head. However, BushCo put an unqualified oaf at the head of FEMA for a reason. He didn't care about the government response to natural disasters. He wanted FEMA to fail.

Anyone who believes that the inaction on the part of this administration was an oversight--is in denial. This was a blatant LIHOP.

The FEMA response is an extension of Grover Norquist's "bathtub" comments. The neoncons want people to hate government and not rely on it--for anything. How many of us have said, "Wow. I'm preparing an emergency plan and stocking up on supplies, because the government is so inept--they won't help if a disaster happens to me."

That's their goal. That's what they want.

21. Read "Assassin's Gate". Goes into how Feith & Rice were seen as
unqualified or stupid - when in actual fact - they were just fogging when opposition or worry about Iraq occupation came up.

Author goes 3/4 of the way in saying this is intentional.. the long war as opposed to a quick one that would have resulted in control & peace.

Like somehow the WH wants to bash the anger & anti-americanism out of Iraqis and then on and on. Give them long wars so they are exhausted. Like WWI & WWII ended Europe's desire for power - for once and for all.

Don't know. But it seems to make more sense.

Yes - when neocons were in canada in Ontario - they purposely made changes to welfare shelter allowances be implemented in 6 months rather than a year (when people could have gotten out of leases). They didn't follow the logic. Implementing this policy in the first weeks after election - when they had lots of time and a 5 year mandate - because they like the social punishment.

Katrina the same.

15. that "fog" including strumming a guitar

The day after Katrina, President Bush posed for a photo-op with Country Western singer Mark Wills in Coronado, California. By the end of the week, Bush had decided to cut short his 5-week summer vacation and return to Washington.
