White House Finds Humor in Hunting Mishap (Getting shot is funny?)

The White House has decided that the best way to deal with Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting accident is to joke about it.

President Bush's spokesman quipped Tuesday that the burnt orange school colors of the University of Texas championship football team that was visiting the White House shouldn't be confused for hunter's safety wear.

"The orange that they're wearing is not because they're concerned that the vice president may be there," joked White House press secretary Scott McClellan, following the lead of late-night television comedians. "That's why I'm wearing it."

The president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, took a similar jab after slapping an orange sticker on his chest from the Florida Farm Bureau that read, "No Farmers, No Food."

Those pellets will seriously interfere with his comfort, will probably give him pain for his remaining days. The pellets might possibly limit his mobility if they are too close to blood vessels and cannot be removed safely and he will be told not to make motions of such-and-such a nature. His face is damaged and his former "dignified appearance" is no longer dignified. Not only that, he will forever be known as the man shot by Dick Cheney and everything else he has done in his life, good or bad, will be buried by that incident.

I would be livid with rage if that were my father in ICU. This was total carelessness, a completely avoidable "accident" caused by a man on too much medication for his mental faculties to operate properly.

55. Seeing Bush's little performance after Katrina

when he kept joking about having "too much fun" in New Orleans with "hurricanes" was sickening. People were literally dying all around him. And he vowed to rebuild Trent Lott's house. A millionaire's house is what was on his mind. Not the elderly dying.
I don't know how any decent person could watch that performance and not think the man has serious mental defects. There was such a glaring disconnect in what was happening and what he was saying.
Later, the spin was that he responds to tragedy with jokes.
That's not it. He lacks empathy.
