Voter group Rock the Vote $500,000 in debt.
The nonprofit group founded in Los Angeles in 1990 is $500,000 in debt and down to just two employees, from 20 in 2002, according to tax documents and Hans Riemer, the organization’s political director.

...though there may be other reasons too.

Because of the way the exit poll survey data is chunked, everyone bought into the "young people didn't vote" media myth. The truth is their votes were distributed across two categories, and contributing demographic factors managed to understate their numbers.
