CA: Davis Recall - They Have the Signatures
LOS ANGELES (AFP)

Foes of besieged California Governor Gray Davis claimed an early success in their bid to oust him, as "Terminator" star Arnold Schwarzenegger mulled whether to fight him for the top job.

Leaders of the drive to win enough signatures from voters in the most populous but most financially strapped US state to unseat the unpopular leader just six months into his second term, said they had achieved their goal.

"Davis' goose is cooked," said Tony Andrade of the Davis Recall Committee, the body set up in February to attempt to achieve the first unseating of a US governor in the country's history.

"We believe we now have enough valid signatures to recall the governor and instigate fresh elections for his post," he said adding that signatures were still be tallied before being sent to state officials for verification. ---

2. I think it's time we get started
We need to grassroots the Davis defense. Start researching the Enron involvement in the energy crisis, start finding all the republican involvement in trying to unseat Davis that is entirely illegal.

Jesus, wouldnt this country run better if the officials the people elected were allowed to run the country instead of having to fight of swarms and swarms of republican crybabies?

3. Why must Davis fight this war by himself?
The democrats as a whole need to stand up and fight for him. Oh sure they don't put their names on the recall ballot. Big deal.

4. If Davis is recalled
Does it automatically mean that a Republican will win. Personally, I hate Davis. I really wouldn't mind if he left. If another Democrat steps up and becomes Governor that would be cool.

7. It's a winner-take-all election
My understanding is that there will be two questions on the ballot: A) Should Gov. Davis be recalled; and B) if he is recalled, who should replace him.

This makes it difficult to run a Dem because a vote for an alternate candidate would take away from Davis and could severely split the votes, unless the repukes cannibalize themselves and run multiple candidates.

Best case would be infighting between the far wacky right and the very wingnut right and they end up running several candidates.

5. Just like the way they "stood up for" Gore in 2000???

'nuff said!

They are all sitting on the fence, in case Ahhnold ends up Gov.. Then they will all rush to his side for the photo-op and declare how they "can work with him"..:puke:

6. Okay, a little reality check
Couple of things here.

Item #1

Right wing rag. I point you to their byline "An Internet Publication for Real Americans"

Item #2

SierraTimes.com™ A Subsidiary of J.J. Johnson Enterprises, Inc.
1970 N. Leslie Suite 204 Pahrump, NV 89060

Item #3

(AFP)AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE is the source

Item #4

The CA Sec of State has ordered that the signatures not be counted till Aug (I believe)

So, here's the deal. Right wing internet publication from Pahrump, NV cites a FRENCH press wire account of something that hasn't been and won't be determined till sometime later in the year.

Relax folks. :)

:hi:

8. LOL! The right wingers have French press as their source?
What is the world coming to! Tweety cited the poll that showed Ahnold at 9 points--Feinstein at 11-- these poll numbers are alot less than Davis's rate at 27. His excuse? Poeple are just too embarrassed to tell the pollster they will vote for Ahnold?! :wtf:

looks to be in trouble... He won't resign though, even to save the governorship for the Dems.

11. It's on the front page of the LA Times today but if they did pull
all their staff from the field, it could be a big tactical mistake on their part. Let the legal challenges begin...Issa will have NO FRIENDS left even in his district!

13. Except for the humilation...Davis should be happy to be rid of this
problem. I say, let them have the country, the states, the communities...we are all going to hell in this Bush handbasket. Why be worried with trying to make anything better until they are all gone? We'll survive! We always have.

14. They've been lying about the numbers all along
Until it's official, I doubt they have them. They have only a little over a week to get the rest of the signatures.

16. you're right
When I saw the recall person here - she had 3 signatures - 3!

That was it - everyone was blowing her off. If you think the State of Calif. wants to spend I believe it is $30 million $ on this BS well think again!

The must verify each and every signature according to Nancy Pelosi. She stated they need 1.3 million signatures for it to have a chance because there are probably lots of dupes, etc.

Also, I talked to the anti-recall people and they said that in the situation here - voter fraud was a very REAL issue. They were registering people to vote (the claim for the table) and yet had the recall petitions right in front of you.

The whole things smells like one big rotten egg!!

:kick:

15. Time to draw a line in the sand
I'm not from California, so in a sense I have no dog in this fight. Still, it seems to me that the Davis recall has to be fought firmly and at all costs as a matter of principle. This is just one example, along with the redistricting in Texas and Colorado and the Great Theft of 2000, of the GOP's willingness to throw out the rule book of civilized democracy to achieve its ends. Let's take Bush at his word when he says that the only way to respond to a tyrant is to draw a line in the sand. This is tyranny and the line's already been drawn for us.
