Update: Residents warned to stay indoors after plant explosion
Updated: 5PM February 17, 2006

BAKERSFIELD (CA) - Fire crews are advising people who live within a mile of the Hondo Chemical Plant to stay indoors and shut all windows due to the possibility of hazardous fumes.

City and County Fire Departments are battling the three alarm fire that broke out at Hondo Chemical Plant at 20807 Stockdale Highway, near Enos Lane, Friday afternoon just after 3:30 p.m.

Officials say an explosion took place and employees were immediately evacuated.

Meanwhile, fire crews are warning residents who live within a mile of the plant to stay indoors, shut all windows and vents.

2. The pictures were wild. It was breaking news in LA
during the 6pm hour. It is a massive dark cloud (I am deeply sad to say it was really big) and they said that it was harmful. :scared:

It is near Bakersfield and I have no idea which way the wind is blowing.

GSPI and ABF Acquire 100% Ownership of the Bakersfield Biodiesel Plant
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., January 21, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Green Star Products, Inc. (OTC:GSPI) is pleased to announce today that American Biofuels (ABF), a biodiesel production company that is 35% owned by GSPI, has acquired 100% ownership of the Bakersfield Biodiesel Plant (before acquisition, GSPI stockholders owned 17.5% of the Bakersfield Plant and after acquisition they own a full 35% of the plant).

In January 2003, ABF signed a 50/50 Joint Venture contract with Hondo Chemical, Inc. to build and operate one of the largest biodiesel production facilities in the United States on the Hondo Chemical Site. The Hondo site has extensive infrastructure including multiple rail car sidings, industrial building, utilities and other amenities on the 35-acre industrial property.
