Colombia torturing recruits, says report
BOGOTA, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The Colombian military said it is investigating reports that some of its recruits have been subject to violent torture as part of an initiation.

Those allegedly responsible for committing the tortuous acts will be punished, said military commanders, El Tiempo reported Monday.

The recruits were reportedly forced to eat animal excrement and were beaten and branded.

Weekly newspaper Semana on Sunday published a series of photos depicting cruelty to recruits at a base some 60 miles west of the capital, Bogota.
