CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted three Ohio men on charges of planning attacks on U.S. military personnel in Iraq, according to an indictment.

The three men, who all lived in Toledo within the last year, were arrested over the weekend, said Assistant U.S. Attorney David Bauer in Toledo. The indictment was unsealed Monday.

They were to be arraigned in federal courts in Cleveland and Toledo on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects recruited others to train for a violent holy war against the United States and its allies in Iraq, the indictment said. The group traveled together to a shooting range to practice shooting guns and studied how to make explosives, the indictment said...

2. Prediction: 14 months from now ...
... the "suspects" will be "convicted" of vague "immigration violations" and quietly "deported" after the mouch-touted "evidence" fails to "pan out."

End of story.

9. Another bit of news or actions taken just in time to influence
any decisions made by congress regarding bush's right to spy on Americans. SEE...Americans are plotting...so we will be better protected if we can secretly spy on any American. Easy as that...bill passed by Congress and the King has even more powers. I just wonder if they will pick up some conversations/plans (by accident of course) of Democratic campaign planning. Naw...we can TRUST them not to do that.

18. AP says the FBI will have news conf. also this afternoon

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/military_plot_charges;_ylt=Ah9JAuKjgvwqNd9Bvc94mzGs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ--

El-Hindi is accused of trying to get a U.S. citizen with a military background to travel with him in November 2004 to the Middle East as part of the suspects' plan to establish a terrorism training center. The indictment does not identify the military person, referring to him or her throughout the document as "the trainer."

All three men are charged with conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim, or injure people or damage property in a foreign country; conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals; and harboring or concealing terrorists.

Amawai also is charged with unlawfully importing, manufacturing, distributing or storing explosive materials and with making threats against the president.

The
FBI and the U.S. Justice Department planned separate news conferences Tuesday afternoon to discuss the case. Neither would comment before then.

20. Reuters: "Amawi was charged with downloading a video," I really did
not know you could get arrested for having videos such as these.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060221/ts_nm/security_ohio_dc;_ylt=At8bIpEd7Bo58PSYNAe6Q_Cs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3b2NibDltBHNlYwM3MTY-

......The men were also accused of gathering and viewing training materials, some from Web sites, for use in training sessions.

Amawi was charged with downloading a video, "Martyrdom Operation Vest Preparation," on how to make a suicide bomb vest.

The indictment said the men used code words to communicate with co-conspirators in the Middle East. It said they tried to find and provide various resources and materials requested by the co-conspirators for use in fighting against the U.S. military and coalition forces in Iraq and elsewhere.

The resources included money, training, explosives, communications equipment, computers or personnel.

22. Sounds like some undercover work had a hand in this, to me
...They worked with a U.S. citizen identified in the indictment only as "the Trainer." The indictment said the Trainer, who was not charged in the case, had a U.S. military background and was recruited by el-Hindi in 2002 to help provide security and bodyguard training.

If the trainer was not arrested, the trainer was likely working for the prosecution team.

25. It could well be that the former military person was approached,
and then reported the incident. Or, he was implicated and flipped. Or he was inserted into the scene for the express purpose of uncovering what they suspected. We'll have to see what comes of this in the trial phase.

28. Is it just me.....
Why recruit people here to train and send to Iraq to attack American troops when they could be used HERE? There's no need to sneak anyone in when you recruit someone already here and the terror potential is far greater.

Imagine an attack on a US military base here in the US? A power plant, or Mall.... Why send them halfway around the world to fight America when they are already here?

What do you think?

Peace

30. Yawn, something is for sure fishy about this story. It would seem
to me they'd be more valuable here in the U.S. to do destruction than to go to Iraq to fuck themselves even.

29. Toledo Blade-3 Toledo men indicted on charges of plotting to kill U.S. for
-ces in Iraq

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060221/BREAKINGNEWS/60221026

Three Toledo men — two from Jordan, one from Lebanon — were indicted this morning in federal court on charges that they were conspiring to attack U.S. forces in Iraq as part of a “holy war” that included raising money, and recruiting and training others to fight.

Charged were: Mohammad Zaki Amawi, a Jordanian who lived in Toledo until August; Marwan Othman El-Hindi, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Jordan; and Wassim I. Mazloum, who lived in Toledo after leaving Lebanon in 2000.

With the help of “trainer,” an unnamed informant who came forward and testified before a federal grand jury with crucial information, federal authorities allege that the trio were training in Ohio to attack targets in the Middle East — including U.S. forces — and had bomb-making and other weapons videos.

Mr. Mazloum operates a car business in Toledo with his brother and the indictment alleges that Mr. Mazloum said he could use his car business “as a cover for traveling in and out of Iraq.”...

Toledo-based charity with Hamas link padlocked

A Toledo-based charity was padlocked today as the Treasury Department ordered U.S. banks to freeze its assets amid government charges it funnels money to the militant organization Hamas.

KindHearts, which has offices in the Westgate area of West Toledo, allegedly is connected with the Hamas-affiliated Holy Land Foundation and the al-Qaida-affiliated Global Relief Foundation, the Treasury Department said. The government took similar action against those groups in late 2001.

Under the government action, U.S. citizens are barred from doing business with KindHearts.

The Treasury Department seized the group's offices and posted notices on its doors...

KINDHEARTS CHARITY
Leaders vigorously rebut U.S. allegations; board members deny Hamas ties

The federal government's padlocking of a Toledo-based Muslim charity was politically motivated after the Hamas party's legislative victory in Palestine, KindHearts' leaders said yesterday.

The charity's West Toledo offices were locked and its assets frozen by the Treasury Department Sunday while the government investigates KindHearts for alleged ties to Mideast terrorists.

"It's dirty politics," said Dr. Hatem Elhady, chairman of the board of KindHearts, which raised $5.1 million in 2004. "They do not like the way things are going in Palestine. They do not like the election results. But that is not our problem. Our problem is providing aid to people in desperate need of help."

The Hamas party, which gained control of the Palestinian legislature in last month's elections, is the political wing of Hamas, which the United States considers a terrorist group. Hamas' platform calls for the destruction of Israel, and President Bush has hinted that he may seek to cut off $150 million in aid to the Palestinians...
