Overtime lawsuits starting to proliferate

Large U.S. employers are getting hit with state and federal lawsuits alleging they systematically failed to pay overtime.

Some of the suits are paying off. Earlier this month, Swiss financial giant UBS AG agreed to pay up to $89 million to settle several state and federal lawsuits filed by financial advisers who were improperly classified as exempt from overtime, the Washington Post said Tuesday.

Last fall, Allstate Corp. agreed to pay up to $120 million to nearly 3,000 claims adjusters in California

2. When Bush pushed these rule changes
he used the most Orwellian language possible - this was to help more workers qualify for overtime pay - he said, even though the projected numbers appeared to suggest something else. Somehow this story is not surprising, but perhaps the lack of coverage and response to the issue is a bit surprising.
