Pataki transferred to Manhattan hospital, undergoes surgery

February 21, 2006

Gov. George Pataki underwent surgery to alleviate a blockage in his digestive system Tuesday, five days after surgeons removed his appendix.

The surgery was performed at a Manhattan hospital at 1:15 p.m. and lasted an hour, said Pataki spokesman David Catalfamo.

"Gov. Pataki is recovering in his room and he is awake, alert and resting comfortably," Catalfamo said in a written statement.

Pataki, 60, was transferred to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center at 9 a.m. from the Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Westchester County earlier Tuesday. One of the reasons for the transfer was the possibility that the surgery might be required. The condition had existed for a few days, Catalfamo said.

"This was one of the options all along," he said.

2. Wow.
I wish him well.

The GOP governor of Kentucky is also in the hospital now, and has been since somewhere around Feb 12(?). I want him healthy so he can be thrown out on his ear after a full recovery.

6. That's why I think he must be in bad shape
this is the 2nd surgury since he was admitted. Plus they moved him to another hospital. Something's not right here?

8. He's rich. He can go to whatever hospital is the best, even if it's only
marginally better.

7. look for colon cancer
occassionally when things like this happen it turns out to be colon cancer, inexperienced surgeons don't catch it the first time.
