Dover, Pa., School Board to Pay $1M

DOVER, Pa. — The Dover Area School Board unanimously agreed Tuesday to pay $1 million in legal fees to the plaintiffs who successfully sued to end the policy of presenting "intelligent design" as an alternative to evolution.

The eight board members agreed to pay three legal organizations that represented the plaintiffs in the case.

The organizations also said they agreed to reduce their attorneys' fees and expenses by more than $1 million because members who supported the intelligent design policy had been voted off the board.

In December, a federal judge ruled the previous board's decision to insert intelligent design into the science curriculum violated the constitutional separation of church and state.

2. And out of whose pockets will those dollars be extracted?
I doubt it will be the morans who sat on the board and pushed that idiotic policy. And it will not be the religious nuts who promoted this fiasco. It will be the taxpayers in the county most of whom were absolutely fine with the theory of evolution.

7. The taxpayers of the county
Voted (or sat at home and didn't vote) in the right wing hateful NUT-CASES who proposed and passed the illegal legislation.

They (the taxpayers) should PAY THE PRICE.

17. Hopefully
But I don't think all smaller districts have it. At least it wasn't the norm until fairly recently.

12. That's how *REPRESENTATIVE* government works.
The dumbass fundies were elected to the School Board
to *REPRESENT* the dumbass fundy constituents who voted
for them.

Now the chickens have come home to roost and they're
carrying $1 million worth of H5N1 bird flu.

5. most citizens of Dover were fine with that school board. Now paying
up is a reminder to them and all of us, be careful who you elect. Reason the taxpayer's pay?? The taxpayers put 'em in office.

9. That's just wonderful! Now, after voting the...
asshole board out of there, the taxpayers have to cough up a cool million as their reward.

I'd laugh my ass off over this if the board members or the bastards who came in and suported them had to pay, but that's not how it's gonna play out. They'll all go on with their lives and start shit somewhere else knowing that the poor slobs stuck living there have to shell out the money or cut good stuff out of the budget.

The only ones who end up paying for this are the kids.

10. Unfortunately, I'm one of the tax payers who will have to pay
for this. Considering the board was warned that their actions were unconstitutional, I believe those board members should have to come up with the money. They broke the law, so they should have to pay.

11. That would be nice, but...
public officials are usually exempt from personal liability for making decisions like that.

Be fun to see fundraising letters and bake sales amongst the fundagelicals to pay for this, though.

As if...

14. How many millions is the county school budget?
I'd like a sense of the proportion of the $1million.
