Blackwell draws first blood, continues assault during Lima stop

LIMA — Ken Blackwell’s campaign had billed the stop in Lima as a news conference to talk about rebuilding Ohio’s economy.

However, on Tuesday, Blackwell offered little on rebuilding, and instead ripped his gubernatorial primary opponent Jim Petro over an alleged pay-to-play scheme that Petro denies.

After brief mentions of his proposals for tax and lawsuit reform, Blackwell, Ohio’s secretary of state, proceeded with an all-out assault on Petro, the state’s attorney general, on assertions that he awarded state work to those who contributed to his campaign and took away work from attorneys who wouldn’t give.

“The last thing we need is someone who’s in the hip pocket of trial attorneys,” Blackwell said. “He’s used his office for his own personal ATM machine for campaign cash.”

The remarks came a day after Blackwell unveiled attack ads against Petro. A television ad set to begin airing this week asserts that Petro awarded $129 million in special counsel work and coerced those attorneys into providing $1.6 million in campaign contributions.

1. Dangerous dance for Blackwell to engage in
tie more tightly one major statewide GOP figure to the ugly Pay to Play stories coming to light in Ohio - and tie more tightly the whole GOP machine in Ohio to the Pay to Play shennanegans.

6. I forget the name of the Republican strategist.
But he said to put the allegation out there and let your opponent spend millions defending himself. It seems as if Blackwell will be able to prance around Ohio pushing his agenda, and only referring to his opponents mis-dealings, while his opponent spends a good deal of time and money defending himself and not pushing his agenda.

5. meanwhile Blackwell uses Diebold voting machine contracts to
ensure his own "personal ATM machine for campaign cash"..wonder why he doesn't get the connection..Diebold + ATM's = paper trails but Diebold + voting machines = no paper trails. Most of the voters in Ohio get it..

10. Because violence is redemptive, didn't you know?
Our true national myth and religion concerns the redemptive quality of violence. Only violence can solve our problems, only violence is a reasonable response to whatever happens. Negotiation? For pansies. Community building? You're an appeaser. No, the only acceptable response to a situation to the believers in redemptive violence is more violence.

Nuts? You bet. But once you notice it, it's everywhere. The first response out of the corrupt Bush administration is almost always an attack.
