Congress' top two Republicans -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee -- and other top GOP lawmakers, including House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King of New York, have called for a moratorium on the deal and a re-examination of the entire CFIUS review process.
Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., a critic of the deal, raised the possibility that Bush could end up on the losing end of a showdown with the GOP-controlled Congress unless the administration adequately explains itself.
"Let's hope we'll get some dialogue going. Otherwise, this threat of a veto may include an override of that veto threat," Foley told CNBC.
