Bush to work from mini White House in India
Bush to work from mini White House in India

Press Trust of India
Posted online: Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 0932 hours IST

New Delhi, February 25: It will be a 'mini White House' functioning from posh Maurya Sheraton hotel in Delhi, with an entire floor redone to create a 'makeshift Oval Office' for US President George W Bush during his upcoming visit to India.

The American President and First Lady Laura Bush will stay in the 'super suite' at the Maurya Sheraton hotel in high-security Chanakyapuri area, sources said.

Bush will be occupying the same suite, where his predecessor Bill Clinton had stayed during his visit to India in 2000. Clinton had stayed at the 'chandragupta Maurya Suite', which was rechristened as "Clinton suite".

The room will now be called ‘Bush suite' in honour of its new occupant, the sources said.

I'd kind of feel bad inflicting him on another country...

But still the idea is tempting...

In this case, that organization that approved the Dubia ports deal that Dobbs always talks about would have to approve theh deal - it'd certainly be a benefit for national security.

58. SELL him? I've been trying to bribe foreign governments to KEEP him!
...And thanks to a few generous supporters, the "Catch Him and You Keep Him" bribe fund now stands at US$30.18! Unfortunately, most foreign governments have realized that it takes much more than that to put His Royal Smirkiness up in the manner to which he has become accustomed.

Actually, the only country dumb enough to fall for such a deal so far has been the good ol' U.S. of A. We keep tryin', though.

He doesn't realize that giving all these jobs to Indians means that the jobs are leaving this country and going to another country.

When he hears we employed x number of Indians, he thinks that will fix the unemployment and poverty on the reservations.

WRONG!

And by the way, while you are over there, Mr. Bush, check out how well trickle down economics has improved the poverty in Calcutta.

really. Why does he need to be there an entire week? If that is so, he will need another two weeks at the pig farm when he comes back, so that means he is out of the white house for three weeks. Maybe someone will go into the oval office back home and find some more Plamegate emails stuffed in the cushions while he is away.

17. It will be a mini FORTRESS - filled w/ SS & security devices.
Probably the floor below the "super suite" where the Bushes are staying. Bullet-proof windows installed, and or extra armored shutters, etc. Given how paranoid W is to avoid ANY unscreened contact with Amurikan citizens, you can imagine his attitude toward the vast crowds of Indians. My kids who have spent time in India say the large cities' streets are like oceans of people - truly overwhelming.

One thing for sure, I wouldn't stay in the same hotel w/ this bunch- it will be the site of many protests.

The CPI(M) today waged an electronic war, protesting against the visit of US President George Bush by launching a website 'gobackglobalterrorist.blog.com'.
Talking to newspersons on the occasion, party Polit Bureau member and State Secretary B V Raghavulu said the party was also sending e-mails to thousands of people and organisations, urging them to join the protest against the American President.

Mr Raghavulu said Mr Bush was the most dangerous of terrorists in the world, representing Imperialistic terrorism. His party would oppose his visit to India.

The CPI(M) would organise protest rallies in all the districts of the state on March two and in Hyderabad on March three, he added.

FOOD FROM HOME?
George W. Bush will touch down in the city for four hours on March 3, and the advance parties have already begun arriving, kitchen, laundry and all.

Members of the Presidential Food Service have brought along their own frozen chicken from the US, besides vegetables, marmalade, sauces, cooking fat, cheese, salt and sugar, and are getting ready to set up shop at the Grand Kakatiya, where the Americans have booked 140 of the 185 rooms.

“They have even brought water purifiers and their own laundry machines as the security and communication teams have to spend over four days in the city,” police said.

A senior official in the ministry of external affairs insisted this was “not unusual as the President’s team always comes with a full-fledged kitchen, including linen and cutlery”. "The second team of Americans landing here on Friday will include barbers, doctors and paramedics also,” the official added.

41. This is great news!
I'm rejoicing that Bush will be gone an entire week. Because Washington as we all know, is a hub of activity and all kinds of things are happening right now.

While Bush is gone, maybe the Ports deal can get torn to shreds. All of his beloved initiatives will get the magnifying glass scrutiny. Bush will blamed for "neglecting" things while he's gone.

The Hindus will give him the red-carpet treatment. They will even find a throne, and put in his hotel room. Make him feel real special. His hosts will bow, bring him goodies and call him 'maharaja Bush'. He'll feel oh so royal! They might even give him a turban for fun, and he can wear a silk robe.

Go for it George because your messes will still be there when you get back.

Delhi, February 26: The National Capital is being spruced up for US President George W Bush's visit next week with the entire Maurya Sheraton hotel where he will be staying booked for the Americans. "All the 600 rooms of the hotel have been booked by the Americans accompanying Bush on his maiden visit as the President," sources said.

Besides decorating the area in and around posh Sardar Patel Marg where the hotel is situated, the places like Purana Killa, Raj Ghat where the President is going to visit during his three-day stay are being spruced up. While parking spaces are being made in the hotel for his motorcade, the ridge area facing the hotel is being given a clean shape with hedges being trimmed and front covered with decorative bamboo walls against a white background.

All kinds of contingency plans are being put in place with various kinds of mock exercises and drills being conducted by authorities ahead of the high profile visit. Sources said as part of the preparations, fire exercises would be conducted at the hotel tomorrow.

Though the US President is not known for his fondness of Indian food so far, elaborate arrangements are being made to serve lip-smacking delicacies to him, the sources said. Besides popular non-vegetarian dishes that will include varieties of chicken and lamb preparations, the chefs are also going to experiment with the whole new range of Indian cuisine for the VVIP platter. Bush is expected to occupy the presidential suite at the super luxury hotel, famous for housing former us President Bill Clinton and other dignitaries during their visit to the Indian capital, the sources said.

The US press was gah-gah over George W. Bush's historic visit to Queen Elizabeth's Buchingham Palace stomping grounds last November, but it was left to the British press to lambast the Yanks for doing a bit too much stomping.

As Terry O'Hanlon reported in London's Sunday Mirror: "George W. Bush's royal visit destroyed large swathes of the gardens at Buckingham Palace. Rare flowers and ancient trees were destroyed or damaged by Bush's helicopters and the Queen's pet flamingoes are reportedly 'traumatized.' Adding insult to injury, the Palace is not insured for such damage.

"Palace staff said they had never seen the Queen so angry as when she saw how her perfectly-mantained lawns had been churned up after being turned into helipads … for the Bush visit."

Bush's army of clod-hopping security agents trampled the Queen's rare plants while the rotors of the Bush's Marine Force One helicopter and two support Blackhawks damaged trees and shrubs that date from the time of Queen Victoria.

"Some of the roses, flowers and shrubs damaged are thought to be rare varieties named after members of the Royal Family and planted by the Queen Mother and Queen. The Palace's head gardener, Mark Lane, was reported to be in tears when he saw the scale of the damage."

67. Well!
I'm sure he paid for them...but who gives a shit about a garden that belongs to the people...not her. She's just like him. Both on their royal throwns.

65. There are just so dadgum many things to say about this!
The outsourcing jokes are not funny. At least not to me. The last thing I want to see, when we are playing political "chicken" with Iran, is our current president deciding to set up an operations center somewhere else on the globe. Not what inspires my confidence.

On the other hand, he's not over here wreaking havoc and talking like a lobotomized Yogi Berra as usual. So I'm in two minds.

Fact is, though, that I am actually concerned for his security. I know Iran can't hit the US with a missile, but I'm pretty sure they could hit India. This creeps me out in a big, big, big way. Our world situation is precarious enough as it is. Factoring in a deliberate tactical strike on India, when we're already looking at a threatened fusillade against Israel - ugh.

The mess just got messier.

Peace
PsA
