Bomb Explosions Kill Two GIs, 3 Iraqis (AP edited & updated)
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 04:49 AM by maddezmom

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A bomb exploded Sunday at a crowded bus station south of Baghdad, killing at least two people an injuring four, police said. Two U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi police officer were killed in other explosions.

A bomb detonated as passengers boarded a bus in Hillah, a predominantly Shiite city about 60 miles south of Baghdad, police Capt. Muthana Khalid said. The vehicle was destroyed in the blast.

Jawad Khazim, a bus driver who witnessed the attack, said a man boarded the bus carrying a bag and disembarked moments later empty-handed. The explosion occurred minutes later, Khazim said.

Sunday was the first day normal traffic was allowed in Hillah after the strife-prone region was placed under an extraordinary daylight curfew to curb a deadly wave of sectarian violence unleashed by the bombing of a revered Shiite shrine in Samarra.

3. No, it doesn't
We have no reason to be there. Even W's father would not go there because of the chaos. But W sought to go after corporate profits and the hell with the chaos. You know, our troops are just pawns in his chess game.

4. We are so iniured to this type of violence...
Remember when 'suicide bombings' were so newsworthy that they pre-empted all other news? Now, it's de riguer to hear the day's stories of mutilation and death inserted between the latest antics of the WH and the personal products ads on the nightly network news. A whole subculture of death is now ensconced within the so-called civilized world, and it's a given.

When I was young, my father told me that within my lifetime I would see young people begin to mutilate themselves. He wasn't specific of course, but we've come to see this piercing and tattooing reach almost epidemic levels within the late-adolescent community. I believe that we are going to begin to see Americans partaking of this ritualistic suicide within the generation. As the hopelessness grows among the young, there will be rationalizations which will lead some to engage in this ultra-nihilistic destruction.

5. Our standard of living is going down, down, down
and our warring is going up, up, up. Yes, an intelligent child will be totally lost.

Unless they are the children of the rich who have the world as their playground.

6. Even then...
an ennui has descended upon the families of the rich. When I was a kid, there was some pressure on the scions of these families to go into the family business. Now, the kids eschew all connections except the draining of money from the enterprise of course, and they are prone to a peculiar brand of self-destruction.

We have entered a Darwinian age where the system is set up for the few who for whatever reason, are able to make it. The pit of drugs, indiscriminate sex (not all bad, of course!), and cultural laziness awaits those who don't care enough and lack motivation. The earnest middle class is dying. History will record that it lasted from the post-WWII era to 2030 or so. The reason we are seeing the rise of Asian professionals and academics here is not that they are necessarily inheretntly brighter, but they are willing to work as ard as it takes...and more, to achieve an end. This is no longer the prevailing philosophy among the groups who traditionally 'did well' here.

One man's opinion.

13. Agree!
A Darwinian age indeed. It takes a revolution to change that.

7. Pile on two more!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Also Sunday, a roadside bomb killed two U.S. soldiers in western Baghdad, the Combined Press Information Center said.

One soldier died immediately after the attack; the other died later at a military hospital.

Since the Iraq war began in 2003, 2,288 U.S. service members have died.

Also in Baghdad, gunmen attacked three Sunni mosques with small-arms fire early Sunday, a Baghdad emergency police official said.

There were no casualties, the official said.

In Madaan, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed an Iraqi police commando and wounded two others who were on patrol Sunday morning.

At least five people were wounded Sunday when a parked Kia minibus detonated in Hilla's main bus station, a city police spokesman said.

The casualties included a woman and child.

Hilla, about 62 miles (100 kilometers) south of Baghdad, is a mostly Shiite city and the capital Babil province.
