US expresses opposition to unconstitutional moves by Philippine military
The United States has expressed its opposition to any move by the Philippine military to get involved in the political crisis in the country, after some soldiers staged an anti-government protest Sunday night, the daily Manila Standard- Today reported on Tuesday.
The paper quoted the U.S. Embassy in Manila as saying in a statement on Monday that Washington advocates the use of peaceful solution through constitutional procedures.
"We strongly believe in the principle and practice of civilian control of a professional and nonpolitical military," the U.S. Embassy said.

The report quoted Bunye as saying that "the U.S. hand appeared" after intelligence reports said one of the alleged plotters in coup attempts made a phone call to a U.S. official in Washington during a meeting with Jose Cojuangco, cousin of former president Cory Aquino.

The
Bush administration appeared to support the coup-plotters totally (some of whom had been brought to Washington, D.C. to confer with
Bush's State Department people, like Otto Reich, PRIOR to the coup attempt), and Condoleeza Rice even commented that Hugo Chavez had brought it upon himself.
