Vocal teacher back in class; student critic mum (and meets w/idiot gov)
Question: If this kid is so keen to "stand up" for his beliefs, what the f*&^ isn't he going back to the school?

I wonder if he'll be welcomed by his new peers at Cherry Creek?

By Karen Rouse, Julianne Bentley and Kieran Nicholson
Denver Post Staff Writers

Creek School District officials on Monday quietly welcomed teacher Jay Bennish back to the "Blazer family" while the student who recorded the teacher criticizing U.S. policies met privately with Gov. Bill Owens.

>snip

Owens invited Allen to his office because he "was very impressed by this young man as he read about him and wanted the opportunity to meet him," said Dan Hopkins, Owens' press spokesman. "He admired his courage in standing up for his beliefs."

Hopkins said Owens shared with Allen and his father, Jeff, his experiences from high school and college, when Owens was the only Republican attending the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin during the 1970s.

"He found Sean to be mature and articulate," Hopkins said.

4. I bet Governor Owens
was allowed and encouraged to speak his opinions freely in the LBJ school. Moreover, I bet his points of view were considered and appreciated by his fellow students. Freedom of speech and all that, you know.

8. This whole situation was great for the Dems
Nothing like young students learning about the two political parties. You had the sneaky weaselly republican stabbing his teacher in the back and the Dems coming to the support of the teacher/victim. We probably picked up quite a few solid Dems with this move.

9.  I don't know about that...
There are more than a few people "undecided" that I've met (both repuke leaning and Dem leaning) that have no problems with free speech but think this was well over the line. The repuke leaning ones tend to focus on what he said, the Dem leaning ones tend to imagine a Repuke teacher doing something similar. I remember just a few months back before the 2004 election when many here were up in arms that a teacher (elementary school, I think) would display a picture of * calling that political indoctrination. Most Dems didn't say anything, others were leading the charge against her, I can't remember any publicly supporting her. I know my evidence is only anecdotal, and I hope your right, but not from what I've seen so far. In the end, the election is a long way off, and I would be surprised to see this brought up at all then, except in a fund raising letter.

I wish I had the search function so I could match up who was outraged at what and who truly stood up for freedom of speech.

19. I am thinking
About the kids that supported the teacher and the ones that are giving a hard time to the snitch. I don't think it has much of an effect one way or the other for the public at large.

11. The kid has had
his 15 minutes of fame and will get his photo op with the Governor. Big wow.

I am so not impressed with this little twit. If he disagreed with what the teacher was saying why didn't he just take issue with him in the classroom and have a real discussion. Instead he turns it into a media event. :puke:

13. Zactly...be a man, and talk to his teacher in private
and ask him to offer time for a counterpoint, at least, ifthe teacher was really interested in debate.

Instead, he's a weaselly little snitch. No wonder the GOP is holding him up as a hero.

14. Didn't this happen a week or so after there was an offer at UCLA?
I believe some "OH help me fromt he liberal intelligencia" type was offering money to stupids (excuse me STUDENTS) at UCLA who could tape a prof spewing that craaaaaaazy liberal speech.

15. Likely where little Allen got the idea...
Y'know, there are loads of goofy-ass colleges who would LOOOOOVE to get some good sheep who can't hack opposing viewpoints....why don't they just change schools?

12. If he truly was "mature and articulate" he would have talked to the prof
first, in private, and asked that he tone the rhetoric down, or at least offer time for a counterpoint in his classroom. That's "standing up fro his beliefs". He took the coward's route.

Subsequently, the the prof's back on the job and he's changing schools. Again, cowardly. If he was standing up for his principles he'd march right back into class.

He's a big fecking crybaby.

22. gov owens?
Damn I hate these partisan hacks, he's SO proud of a snitchy little coward who secretly taped his teacher and pimped it out to hate radio. WOW thats quite the accomplishment. I am still waiting for the "leadership" on the other side to start getting it, this IS war and they have declared it on US! WAKE UP!

24. Well, gee, if the kid had gone to the school board...
...instead of crying to Sean Hannity, perhaps he wouldn't have been labeled a snitch.

Instead, he goes to a right-wing radio host most likely in the hopes of getting enough public outrage to
get the "offending" teacher fired (probably becuase he and his parents don't like it when anyone
says anything bad about *) School board meetings aren't as sexy as Hannity's radio show or Hannity & Colmes.

Tailgunner Joe would have been proud of you, Sean Allen.
