Students call Dean posters a hoax
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 12:16 AM by demdave
Yesterday morning, Dartmouth students awoke to find posters -- complete with Confederate flag backgrounds -- advertising today's lecture by Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean on bulletin boards across campus. The poster, which purported to be an ad created by the Dean campaign on campus, was a hoax and neither Generation Dean nor the Young Democrats was involved in its creation, according to Young Democrats President Paul Heintz '06.
"Whoever is doing this is engaging in the most negative form of campaigning imaginable or participating in the most awful sort of prank," Heintz said.

Heintz said that he found out about the posters early Wednesday morning via blitzmail. Heintz also said that he is particularly concerned that many students actually think that the flyers were made by either the Young Democrats or Generation Dean.

The problem is, after after being in here for a while and seeing the amount of "my candidate" anger, I don't really even suspect the REPS.:puke:

1. someone should take those in and have them checked for
Rove's fingerprints - he seems to have left them -

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/campaigns/wh2000/stories/rove072399.htm

excerpt:

n 1973, he and the College Republicans were accused of encouraging dirty tricks during the Watergate campaign year of 1972. The Republican National Committee, which was then chaired by Bush's father, investigated and eventually exonerated Rove, who blames political opponents from his chairmanship race for spreading false allegations.

But Rove acknowledges that, in 1970, he used a false identity to gain entry to the campaign offices of Illinois Democrat Alan Dixon, who was running for state treasurer. Once inside, Rove swiped some letterhead stationery and sent out 1,000 bogus invitations to the opening of the candidate's headquarters promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing."

3. As a Dartmouth student involved with the Dean campaign...
... I can assure you that the incidents we've had lately concerning Dean and the confederate flag have been perpetrated by an as-yet-unknown smear group on campus. I'll try to keep everyone on the board informed about this as we find out more about the events over the next few days.

9. I don't know if it's the /Dartmouth Review/, but...
...if it was organized them I wouldn't be surprised. Ann Coulter and Dinesh D'Souza used to write for it. Also, in one issue they outed some gay students. Real thuggish stuff like that.

12. Nazi Youth..............
any "Young Republican's Club" on campus would be the primary suspect. These bastards bring "rat fucking" to a new level. These people are the slime of the earth.

13. "As-yet-unknown"...?
Hasn't Dartmouth been known over the past couple of decades for having one of he most notorious right-wing student groups (funded by Scaife, if I recall correctly) that was known for such stunts as putting out a fake statement by a "Black Studies Group" written entirely in "ebonics" gibberish? And wasn't that the alma mater for such standouts of the right as Distort D'Newsa?

(Not saying all Dartmouth students are wingnuts, but it does seem to be a hotbed for well-funded wingnuts.)

19. You can't immediately point to the Review...
...for anything. In fact, the Review, independent of its political leanings, offers (at times) some extremely insightful criticism of our Dartmouth administration. One of the Review's writers is actually a Dean supporter, from what I understand.

And yes, D'Souza and Ingraham wrote for the Review. Of course, my brother-in-law was also editor of the Review in the late 80s/early 90s.

As I said, my personal suspicion, and the suspicion of many, is that there is a smear group on campus to destroy Dean's presence here.

20. Since Dean brought up the issue...he cannot run from it now....
The issue is racism...Dean must face that issue head on...this poster can work for him with the right approcah. If anyone can do it, Dean can!

21. THEEMU: The first place you should look is the Dartmouth Review office
... the place is a notorious training ground for dirty tricksters, dating back to the days when Deborah "Li'l Eva Braun" Stone was the Editor and Anti-apartheid Protest Shantytown Bulldozer Contractor.

28. No, He Should Keep It Up. It Shows The Childishness of Repukes
they are showing their true colors early. It is only helping the democratic party look like they want to campaign on the issues vs. the repukes want to campaign on innuendo, red herrings, false accusations and lies.

Dean has game. All the american people have to do is listen to him speak. A silly poster printed by a repuke college kid isn't going to trump Dean's actual words and actions.

The answer to this is to immediately take them all down, and then make similar ones for the Bush campaign.
