Libel suit dismissed against Liddy

A judge on Wednesday tossed out a defamation lawsuit against former Maricopa County Republican Party Chairman Tom Liddy.

Not only did Liddy not libel political consultant Constantin Querard in a 2004 e-mail, but everything he wrote was shown in court to be true, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Mark Aceto said.

Querard had sued Liddy for reportedly accusing him in an e-mail of "money laundering" prior to the 2004 primary.

At the time, Querard had made headlines and sparked an Attorney General's Office probe that summer when he reportedly used his salary from his non-profit "pro-life" organization, the Arizona Family Project, to send an early ballot form disguised to look as if it came from the Republican Party to thousands of voters in four hotly contested districts. Querard then used the responses to create a valuable database of over 14,000 Republican early voters. He then sold that information to his socially conservative legislative candidate clients to give them a leg up in four hotly contested races.
