Bombs Explode at Thailand Polling Stations

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- Bombs exploded Sunday at three polling stations in restive southern Thailand, injuring four soldiers and a police officer, police said.

The explosions all occurred about 20 minutes after polls closed at 3 p.m. (4 a.m. EDT), said Narathiwat provincial police chief Maj. Gen. Yongyuth Charoenwanit.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra called the snap elections three years early in an attempt to end growing anti-government protests demanding his resignation.
