Zarqawi replaced at head of Iraq resistance
Iraq's resistance has replaced Jordanian-born Abu Mussab Al Zarqawi as political head of the rebels, confining him to a military role, the son of Osama Bin Laden's mentor said on Sunday in Jordan.

"The Iraqi resistance's high command asked Zarqawi to give up his political role and replaced him with an Iraqi, because of several mistakes he made," said Hudayf Azzam, who claims close contacts with the rebels. "Zarqawi's role has been limited to military action," said Azzam, whose late father Abdullah Azzam was the mentor of Bin Laden, the Al Qaeda boss.

He said Zarqawi "made many political mistakes", including "the creation of an independent organization, Al Qaeda in Iraq", adding, "Zarqawi also took the liberty of speaking in the name of the Iraqi people and resistance, a role which belongs only to the Iraqis."

As a result "the resistance command inside and outside Iraq, including imams, criticized him and after long discussions demanded that he be confined to military action", Azzam said. "Zarqawi pledged not to carry out any more attacks against Iraq's neighbors after having been criticized for these operations which are considered a violation of Sharia ," Azzam said.

2. Replaced him as political head of WHICH rebels?
There are many different factions with different agendas; they do not all answer to the same person!

For the most part Iraqi rebels hate Zarqawi and the other foreign jihadists who have insinuated themselves into the conflict and made it even more complex. They want the jihadists out as much as they want the US out.

3. Azzam wants Zarqawi replaced as the 'face' of the insurgency
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 05:54 AM by ECH1969
to the rest of the world and to the Iraqi people. Militarily or organizationally on the ground nothing has changed. These changes are cosmetic to get Jordanians and others pissed at Zarqawi to support the insurgency again.

Zarqawi replaced as al Qaeda chief

Jordanian-born al Qaeda militant Abu Musab Zarqawi has been replaced as head of the terrorist organization in Iraq in a bid to put an Iraqi figure at the head of the group's struggle, said a leading Islamist.

But terrorism specialists were divided on whether the move represented a demotion for the figure most closely identified with a wave of suicide bombings and beheadings or a move by Zarqawi to focus his efforts on a larger regional war.

Huthayafa Azzam, whose father is seen as a political mentor of al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, told reporters in Jordan over the weekend that Zarqawi, who has not made a public statement in months, was no longer the head of al Qaeda in Iraq and that his role "has been limited to military action."

Azzam, who claims close contacts with leading insurgents inside Iraq, said Zarqawi had "made many political mistakes," including kidnappings and beheadings that sparked popular revulsion and unauthorized operations outside Iraq, such as the November bombing of a Jordanian hotel.

12. This just boggles the mind.
Can you imagine the level of ignorance, pettiness, and stupidity required to come up with a bit of propaganda like this? Is this really intended to show that "al Qaeda in Iraq" is disorganized too? Are the Bushites really trying to show they are no worse than their fictitious enemy al Zarqawi?

Real, live propaganda puppets are too inconvenient, they can speak up and refute your story at any time. So they have to be real, but dead. Same logic may be applied to OBL.

20. I think you're right about that
I started to doubt "Zarqawi", because so much of the "news" about him seemed like pure propaganda. It's the same thing with all the "tapes" OBL releases commenting on American politics from his apparently impenetrable "Pakistan cave." Give me a break. You have a good point - real, but dead is the best way because there's enough evidence of their existence & power, but no chance of contradiction from the real person. Sometimes I feel like Al-Queda itself is real, but dead, at this point. It doesn't matter if we catch every single operative, the Bush Ad. needs to keep the threat alive to justify its policies.

21. That works too.
Every so often "Emmanuel Goldstein" lose credibility and has to be replaced, freshened up. But I think there is a connection down there between the disorganization and fecklessness in Washington and this projection of it into the propaganda puppet. Even if I am wrong, the idea amuses me and I will cling to it ...

:) I like your theory. Bush has already been replaced as the political head of the GOP rebellion, confining him to a military role. It's almost a perfect metaphor.

one? the one they killed? The myth of any man that looks like an Iraqi. The newspapers there are so taken over by Rummy and the others that the only thing we sort of know is the body count...and they could be lying about that to us too.

created al-Qaeda in Iraq when he typed those words on his wh keyboard and submitted the story to liberal media outlets.

--He said Zarqawi "made many political mistakes", including "the creation of an independent organization, Al Qaeda in Iraq"--

OK, they can't blame any future attacks on this mythical al-Zarqawi. He was scolded and sent to stand in the corner.

BS! Al-Zarqawi is a hot-key on their keyboards. It will continue to get high usage.
