http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/7271564.htm

Police arrested five people opposed to the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas in downtown Miami on Saturday, including an observer dispatched by protesters to watch officers' conduct.

The arrests were made two days before the official start of sessions in the hemispheric free trade talks, which will take place in Miami from Monday through Friday.

Charles A. Williams, 28, of Plymouth, Vt., Paul D. Bame, 44, of Fort Collins, Colo., Farah Fosse, 26, of Washington, D.C., were charged with obstructing the sidewalk.

3. The Guy James Show mentioned this and DU at the same time
Guy's sidekick, Michael, mentioned that the meaningless arrests have now started. He added, tongue in cheek, that perhaps the protestors were walking in the wrong direction.

6. This treatment indicates how serious power is about protecting power&money
For those who have not yet recognized the importance of the anti-globalization movement, it is on the front lines of a growing clash between property and people.

3 recent comments come to mind:

Stan Goff: "The big bosses are trying to gain control of the world's energy supplies to twist the arms of future economic competitors. <...>Your so-called civilian leadership sees you as an expendable commodity. They don't care about your nightmares, about the DU that you are breathing, about the loneliness, the doubts, the pain, or about how you humanity is stripped away a piece at a time."

Our own DUer Ikojo summed something up nicely: "The police are not there to protect people first...their primary purpose is to protect property." *I would add that individual policemen mostly don't feel that way, but the role that they serve in society, and their reason-for-being in the eyes of the state, is to protect property.

Soros: "I can already discern the makings of the final crisis.... Indigenous political movements are likely to arise that will seek to expropriate the multinational corporations and recapture the 'national' wealth."
