Britain plans judicial inquiry if body is that of missing arms expert

LONDON, July 18 (AFP)

Britain's ministry of defence confirmed the government would hold an independent judicial inquiry if a body found west of London on Friday proved to be that of the missing Iraqi weapons expert David Kelly.

"Should the circumstances be as we now fear, the government will set up an independent inquiry led by a senior judge into the death of Dr Kelly," a defence ministry spokeswoman said.

"But it is right that we await formal identification by the police and that we inform the family."

She added that the inquiry would begin "very soon" after formal identification, which is to be given on Saturday. ---

3. The head must be damaged

so badly as to be unrecognizable. My first response to this death announcement was a shudder from the chill of how desperate the purveyors of lies seem to be. My second responsse is, what was his state of mind? Was suicide a possibility? Was an accident? We need more information so we can find out if the facts support our intuition.

4. Will this judicial inquiry

have the authority to expand its investigation (dare I say in a Starrist fashion?) to look further into the WMD lies, or will it be strictly limited to this mysterious death?
