Feinstein Researchers Identify Intelligence Gene.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/04/060427161424.htm

While, as discussed in another thread, we turn away from actual science, these geniuses isolate a gene that influences "cognitive abilities" and, of course, "intelligence" without being to agree on a definition of "intelligence" in scientific terms. Next thing you know, they'll isolate the gene for "leadership".

1. And while they're looking for the gene that causes schizo-type psychosis
I would be so bold as to venture to say most, not all, schizo-type breakdowns, and even long-term psychosis come from causal experiences, rather than genetic factors (only from quite a bit of personal experience with persons having schizo-type psychosis, of course)

I worry about what they plan to do with this research. Will they test us for genetic propensities before employment, shades of Gattica come to mind :scared: I don't trust them to even try to cure people anymore. Most mentally ill people don't have a ton of money. :(

3. This is excellent news. Of course there are more than one kind of
intelligence but anything that allows for people to be tested or have their diagnosis verified.. is a good thing. I cannot wait.

You think of the negatives with Gothica. What about the positives? What about vetting politics or higher office for aggressive narcissistic psychopathic males or females? Wouldn't that save the world a whole bunch of grief! You could stop predators, perhaps, from becoming priests or doctors and the like.

Think of the positives. More information is good. More information in the hands of corporations or insurance is not good. Why you have to have national health care. So the risk of illness is shared across the nation and across generations.

For some reason - I trust humanity. I don't think that finding one link is going to make anyone say: oh - you are not intelligent - if the person obviously is. There are 100 ways of being intelligent. If they have figured out a link to one of the ways.. better for us all.
