Kinky delivers signatures to get on (TX gubernatorial) ballot.

(AP) AUSTIN Musician and author Kinky Friedman took his rebel campaign for governor to state authorities Thursday, presenting 169,574 voter signatures he hopes will get him on the November ballot as an independent candidate.

"All I can say is, thank God for bars and dance halls," said Friedman, who wore his trademark black cowboy hat and chomped a cigar while explaining where many signatures came from.

Independent gubernatorial candidates had to collect 45,540 signatures from registered voters by Thursday's deadline to make it onto the ballot.

Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the other major independent in the race, turned in Tuesday what her campaign said were 223,000 voter signatures.

Republican Gov. Rick Perry and Democrat Chris Bell will be on the fall ballot because they won their parties' primaries in March.

3. Zzzz. Texas gov't is in crisis and MSM covers Kinky the minstrel
Republican Texas: The nation's highest property tax rate... highest sales taxes... lousy schools... judgeships for sale... runaway corporate welfare ... highest property insurance rates with crummiest coverage... highest # of people not covered by health insurance

Oh, what's the MSM media to do? Why cover Kinky's run of course!

11. Hey wait just a second..
... highest property tax rates WITH NO INCOME TAX. Income taxes are typically more regressive than property taxes could ever be.

Crummy coverage? Where did you dredge that one up? My homeowners has put a new decked roof on two different houses, bill on the last one: insurance company $14,000, me $0.

Lousy schools, probably depends on where you live. My son's high school routinely places in the Academic Decathalon.

Go pick on Missouri or Alabama :)

5. It's too bad most people will vote against Perry but he'll win anyway
since the vote is getting split up.

9. I happen to love Kinky
hes gonna shake up texas which is in a steaming pile of shit right now. Our gov. wants to end public education (look at stuff like the 65% rule whch was an executive decision along with other excecutive decisions). Our education is in a crisis and Kinky will help it alot. Plus we dont have to worry about him signing a bill in a church (or cynagog)
