Former Top Federal Lawyer (Olson) to Take Skakel Case to Supreme Court
HARTFORD (AP) -- The lawyer who helped George W. Bush win the 2000 presidential election plans to help Michael Skakel appeal his murder conviction to the Supreme Court. Former solicitor general Theodore Olson says the Kennedy cousin's case will focus on when the charges were filed.

3. Not fight FOR a Kennedy, but fight to KEEP "Kennedy" and "Murder"
in the headlines for as loooonnnngggggg as possible. At least until the 06 midterms. I expect a flurry of stories around late October or so.

9. In this case,...
...I don't think so. To the sheeple, Skakel doesn't equal Kennedy, and it's old news, in any case.

4. DAMN IT - This is a POLITICAL MOVE to get Kennedy name linked to a crime
story just in time to crank up the news coverage before another election.

How dumb can the Skakels get - they don't know when they're being used?

5. And that's as close as Teddy's going to get to SCOTUS
Poor Teddy Olson. First he argued that independent counsels were unconstitutional and lost.

Then he joined up with the American Spectator to smear President Clinton, and defend the funding pipeline from Richard Mellon Scaife to Whitewater witness David Hale.

Then he worked overtime to steal the election for George Bush, for which he was awarded the post of Solicitor General, where he could visit the Supreme Court often, but not put on those robes he wanted so badly.

Then George Bush murdered Olson's wife, although Ted didn't let the grass grow beneath his feet.

And after all that, the lies, the hypocrisy, the smearing, election theft, betrayal, murder, and cover-up, Ted Olson was overlooked for a seat on the Supreme Court. He'd been doing the dirty work for the GOP for so long that now he's too old to politically poison the Supreme Court for decades, as the Bush Administration desires.

Is there any justice in this world?

YES.

10. He remarried after 6 months after his wife died on 9/11???
The only reason she died was because she wanted to be with him on his birthday and took a later flight.

14. Apparently so.
Although I must admit that my only source is that DU thread. For some reason I couldn't find any other news on it, but I probably just whiffed on the Google search terms.

What can be said about it? It must be lonely in the torture chamber of the dungeon beneath the latrine behind the chicken coop next to the servants' quarters at the top.

11. i think michael skakel
should legally change his name to Kennedy Cousin Skakel.

it would make it so much easier for the "smear kennedy by any means available" crowd.

apparently that is the only way he can be identified so the american people will know who he is.

AND, if i remember correctly, he is only related by marriage! not a drop of kennedy blood in his veins.

15. Actually , he is related to RFK's wife, whose maiden name was Skakel.
Edited on Tue May-16-06 12:32 AM by BrklynLiberal
Ethel Kennedy was Ethel Skakel before she married Robert. I believe Michael is her nephew; her brother's son. ERGO: No actual Kennedy blood.

He is an in-law of the Kennedy family: Skakel's father is the brother of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel.

17. All I can say is that I hope justice is served
I have no sympathy for Michael Skakel, unless Olson can prove he didn't commit the crime. If he's just trying to get retried as a juvenile, he can go to hell, imo.

case?
There is no statute of limitations on murder. And "timely trial" applies only to those incarcerated awaiting trial.
The Supreme Court doesn't hear murder trials.

No grounds. None.
