LA Times Poll : Doubts Create a Voter Split Over Bush
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 06:08 AM by Manix

When the poll asked registered voters whether Bush deserved reelection, 42% said yes and 46% said no, a difference within the survey's margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. When asked whether they were more likely to support Bush or the Democratic nominee in 2004, voters again lined up in almost equal camps, with the president trailing, 38% to 42%, also within the margin of error.

Alcoholic for 30 years. Let's see a Media Whore report on dead brain cells from drug/alcohol abuse!

And then let's see some Media Whore reports get into the facts that the Bush family made Al Qaeda!

In the late 80s, Pakistan's then head of state, Benazir Bhutto, told the first President George Bush, you are creating a Frankenstein. But the warnings never quite filtered down to the cops and G-men on the streets of New York.

3. If the margin of error is 3%, explain how the results are inside the
margin of error when they're 4 points apart?

4. MOE is Plus or Minus 3 points
So the lesser number could be three points lower than stated, and the greater number 3 points higher (and, of course, vice versa).

5. Okay...

but three points higher than 42% is 45%. So if the other side polls at 46%, it's outside the margin of error.

Unless you're saying that the lower number can be adjusted by three points higher; and the higher number can be re-adjusted three points lower? In that case, you'll have a difference worth noting.

6. Backlash is correct
If you add the MOE to the low number and subtract it again from the high you are doubling the MOE. By that method, you could also conclude that the real spread could be as much as 10 points, 35% (38-3) to 45% (42+3).

This reporter is obviously carried away by wishful spin.
