British Govt announces independent inquiry into Kelly death

The British Government will hold an independent inquiry into the death of weapons expert Dr David Kelly, after confirmation that it was his body that was found in woods near Oxford.

Speaking in Japan yesterday Mr Blair said he would not comment on the case before the outcome of an independent judicial inquiry.

"What is important now is that there is some due process, and the reason for having the inquiry, and I think people would have expected us to have one because of the tragedy that's occurred is so that the facts can be established," Mr Blair said.

"I don't think it's right for anyone, including ourselves, to make a judgement until we have the facts."
