Pentagon reverses on listing of homosexuality as mental illness

In response to the discovery that the Department of Defense had classified homosexuality as a mental illness, the Pentagon has released a statement changing the designation, PageOneQ has learned.

The classification became public when reported by news agencies on July 19, almost five years since it was first issued in 1996.

PageOneQ spoke with Lt. Colonel Jeremy Mertan from the Office of the Secretary of Defense's public affairs office. Colonel Mertan provided the following statement regarding the change in what is formally known as Department of Defense Instruction 1332.38 (Nov 14, 1996):

of the DoD Instruction was the 1996 document. If you weant to complain about its content, call Bill Clinton and give him an earful!

Looks like it's hard for you to avoid jhumping Clinton for stuff like this, but wouldn't it be great if the Pentagon backed away from this sort of homophobic crap?

12. My guess

is that Bill Clinton signed the order to change it to a mental illness from a felony type convictable offense. He also changed it from a Bad Conduct Discharge to a General Discharge when violating Don't Ask Don't Tell.

I don't like the policy, but Don't Ask is better than a felony Bad Conduct/Dishonorable, with witchhunts.
