Republican Party revoked support for Harris Senate campaign

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
As Gov. Jeb Bush was trying to get House Speaker Allan Bense into the U.S. Senate race, the Republican Party of Florida was trying to force Katherine Harris out.

Party Chairman Carole Jean Jordan bluntly told Harris in a May 7 letter that she couldn't win and that the party wouldn't support her campaign. The letter was also signed by national committeewoman Sharon Day and national committeeman Paul Senft.

"Katherine, though it causes us much anguish, we have determined that your campaign faces irreparable damage," said the confidential letter, obtained Monday by The Associated Press. "We feel that we have no other choice but to revoke our support."

The letter was written the day before Harris turned in paperwork to get her name on the Republican primary ballot for the seat held by Democrat Bill Nelson. Bense announced later that week that he would not enter the race despite the urging of Bush and others.

The Harris campaign didn't immediately return a phone message seeking comment Monday.

9. So much for the republican party's Joan of Arc, remember.....
<snip>
Harris Republicans’ Joan of Arc

WASHINGTON, Jan 21, 2001 (Reuters) — Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris was canonised as the Joan of Arc of the Republican Party on Saturday night, in a triumphant onstage appearance at her home state’s inaugural ball.

“In France it was Joan of Arc; in the Crimea it was Florence Nightingale; in the deep south there was Rosa Parks; in India there was Mother Teresa and in Florida there was Katherine Harris,” said singer Larry Gatlin as he introduced Harris to an adoring crowd of Florida Republicans.

Republican Harris played a key role in delivering Florida and therefore the presidency to George W. Bush by making a series of decisions as Secretary of State that thwarted Al Gore’s attempts to have disputed votes recounted.

Elegant in a low-cut strapless black taffeta evening gown, Harris took to the podium at the National Building Museum to loud cheers and whistles — only minutes after President Bush had finished his traditional inaugural waltz with the First Lady.

“We just thank you so very much for your prayers, your letters of support, your flowers, your encouragement during the count and the recount,” Harris said. “And today we have a president of the USA. It is going to be a great next four years — eight years. God bless America.”

Then the Republicans will call her a "disgruntled" former Secretary of State.

Then they'll be making fun of her Tammy-Fae makeup and swinging lifestyle in a nasty smear campaign.

63. Harris is doomed
Her troubles started when she believed that Joe Scarborough was going to run on the same ticket, for the '06 Repuke Senate aeat. Katherine publicly asked the question. "Hey joe, why was the death of Lori Klausitis swept under the rug? And we all asked who is Lori?
This question opened up another can of worms that the neocons would like to keep buried.
I'm certain that this event is well known to most of the DUers. Therefore I won't dwell on this incident.
Remember this Kat, you're the person most responsible for King George being appointed president in 2000
And it has already been stated that these neocons are notorious for EATING THEIR OWN, so it would behoove you too be very careful. Don't fly in small planes, and it might be prudent of you to hired a food-taster.
Come on over to our side Kat, you certainly know where all the bodies are buried. And if you can bust these cretins, you can be sure that we will forgive your past indiscretions.
YOU CAN TRUST US BABY

15. Just out of curiousity, is she still running for her congressional seat?
Or did she retire from that seat in hopes to win the SEnate.

The repukes rewarded her by giving her an easy-win district and a nice office when she got to DC. I think even they knew that Katherine Harris could never win statewide because of the crap she pulled.

I hope she lives to tell her side of the story as to what happened in Florida 2000

32. It seems to me she left that seat
From Wikipedia: "State Representative Nancy Detert, banker George 'Tramm' Hudson, wealthy automobile dealer Vern Buchanan and former state Representative Mark Flanagan are running for the Republican nomination. The two Democrats vying for their party's nomination are Sarasota banker and businesswoman Christine Jennings and the nominee in the 2004 race, Jan Schneider." (Florida Congressional races) The primary is September 5. The filing deadline has passed, so Cruella can't get on the ballot legitimately.

Of course, after the primary, there might be a deal. The winner for the House seat is ordered to step down, to be replaced by Cruella, that being the necessary inducement to get her to step down from the Senate race and be replaced by a candidate who might win.

Or maybe she'll just move in with Tom DeLay in his Virginia condo. It would serve both of them right.

seat could be up for grabs. No wonder the Repukes are so pissed at her.

Here is a taste:
You Harris bashers should just STFU. You're worse than trolls.

Leave the woman alone and let the cards play out in the primary, and then in the general if she wins the former. We support Harris, we don't give a feces what the biased FL MSM rags say with their stupid, slanted polls, and we don't appreciate you chumps dumping on her with smarmy personal insults and ad hominem attacks because you can't refute her solid conservative stand on the issues.

Harris supports our brave men and women in the military, she is a solid conservative across the board on the issues, and she has strong grassroots support in FL. She declared her candidacy in Dec of '05 while other so-called FL Republicans sat on their asses, wrung their hands, whined, and attacked her without having the balls to enter the race themselves. Nelson is a flat-out joke - if Harris supposedly couldn't win, these liberals, RNC elitists, and pseudo-FReepers like you wouldn't be attacking her.

30. Another prayer to our Dear Lord...
Dear Lord:

Please, oh please, allow Katherine Harris to get a sudden case of self-righteous and spill the beans about how she enabled the Bush campaign to steal the Election of 2000.

Please, oh please, Lord let her come forward to tell the truth about what really happened and how the Republicans bribed her and promised her a congressional seat if she made it so that blacks, Jews, the elderly and most non-Cuban Latinos were disenfranchised in Florida.

Please, oh please, Lord allow her to expose the lies and corruption of the Jeb Bush and George Bush administrations.

And please, Lord, I know that you know that she knows that they know something about what happened in Ohio. Please let the truth and the facts surface...

...and let her confession stir the hearts and minds of the American public and right the wrongs that this administration hath wrought.

Thank you, dear Lord and Amen...

TFS

I don't think cruella is gonna step down. Now that she's on her own, the GOP is her competitor.

Let's hear your campaign smear Kathy! Tell us how sleazy they are!

Time to write that tell all book ..... betya you could get a $5 million advance.

Tell about the purge lists.

Tell about DBT / Choice point

Tell about stopping the recount

Tell about the negative 16,000 votes that Al Gore got in Volusia County from diebold in one precinct
after he was declared the winner

Tell what you promised or paid

Tell about Tom Feeney, Clint Curtis, and Ray Lemme who got up one morning
and drove to Georgia and committed suicide in a motel room that his credit card
has him checking in the night before

Tell about Jeb's biz dealings in Florida .... you know buy a property .... declare bankruptcy .....
and then but the same property for dimes on the dollar.

Don't hold back sister ...... you have been cut out of the family business (mafia) and
if you stay quite ..... your future does not look pretty ...... look what happened to Marvin
Bush's domestic help.

The Fairfax police public statement on the death made no reference to Marvin Bush, his address, or the videotape of the deceased employee with President Bush:

"A 62-year-old Alexandria area woman died after being pinned between a rolling car and a building. The crash happened on Monday, around 9 pm, near the intersection of Fort Hunt Road and Edgehill Drive. Bertha Champagne had gone outside to get something from a car in a driveway. The car, which was left in gear, began to roll forward. Champagne was pinned between the car and a small building next to the driveway. The car continued to roll down the driveway, crossed Fort Hunt Road, and came to rest in a wooded area. Champagne was taken to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital where she was pronounced dead."

57. Pretty weak of the gop
She's their senate candidate and they have an obligation to support her in the general election.
I support Lamont in the primaries. But, should he lose (and God knows I hope he doesn't) I will (unhappily) support LIEberman.

The problem for the pukes in Florida is, they don't have a candidate who can beat Nelson. I think, if jebbie the scrub is so concerned he should run.

Associated Press Writer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.

The state Republican Party bluntly told Rep. Katherine Harris that she couldn't win this fall's Senate election and that the party wouldn't support her campaign, a letter obtained Monday by The Associated Press shows.

Party Chairman Carole Jean Jordan made a last-ditch attempt in the confidential May 7 letter to force Harris out of the race for the nomination to challenge Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson. But the next day, Harris turned in paperwork to get her name on the Sept. 5 Republican primary ballot.

The letter came as Gov. Jeb Bush was trying to get state House Speaker Allan Bense into the race. Bense announced later that week that he would not enter the race.

Harris rose to national prominence as Florida's secretary of state during the bitter presidential election recount in 2000 that gave the White House to George Bush. She was elected to the U.S. House in 2002.

The Harris campaign didn't return a phone message seeking comment Monday.

61. double standard
You would think the dems are a bunch of traitors for calling butt-kissing Joe on the carpet to represent CT for the dem ticket. At least they give him an opportunity to stand before his constituents. This goof-ball nazi, Harris, is having the carpet pulled from under her feet before she gets a chance to step up to the microphone and shout "zieg heil"!!

68. She will probably not win...
keep in mind, that it's her family's money that she is spending on this campaign. So she could on the eve of the election, go to Countdown for an exclusive LIVE interview and spill her guts. Just make sure that she is not identified in her location. That is Must See TV for sure.
