Sen. Burns, Tester debate in Montana
http://www.onelocalnews.com/prescottherald/ViewArticle.aspx?id=9234&source=2

MATT GOURAS, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 24, 12:05 AM ET

BUTTE, Mont. - U.S. Sen. Conr, , ) accused his Democratic challenger Saturday of wanting to raise taxes and weaken the U.S. Patriot Act, but brushed off allegations of ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Burns didn‘t answer a question asking for details on his staff‘s relationship with Abramoff, saying the allegations are being trumped up by Democrats for political gain.

. . .

They also disagreed sharply on the U.S. Patriot Act. Burns said it is needed to intercept calls placed to known terrorist phone numbers and gives law enforcement the same tools they use to fight organized crime.

Tester said the Patriot Act is eroding the very freedoms the terrorists are trying to take from Americans.

During a Sept. 10 debate, a raucous crowd heckled and jeered Burns, forcing him to cut short his statements. This time ushers at Butte‘s Mother Lode Theater were on hand to keep the crowd under control and applause was banned until the end.

1. Saw the Sept 10 debate on Cspan last night
That was a real hoot. If that's representative of Montana as a whole then Burns is finished

2. If ushers anywhere could keep a crowd in line, it would be Butte ushers.
Latest polls show big trouble for that corrupt Republican scumbag Conrad Burns.

Will poke through the archives for the Sept. 10 debate.

3. Butte's a tough town

The 9/10 debate was, I think, in Hamilton, near Missoula.

Burns appears to be in deep shit; couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

4. "Burns didn‘t answer a question asking for details on his staff‘s
relationship with Abramoff, saying the allegations are being trumped up by Democrats for political gain."

"Mr Burns", Tester might have retorted, "We are both politicians... or has it escaped your notice? I am not here to discuss the fauna and flora in the Shenandoah Valley with you. In this context, my sole puprose is to reveal the reasons why you and your party should be summarily ejected from power." If that is politically motivated, being a conscientious politician, I can only be overjoyed that you so generously concede it. I certainly wouldn't want you to accuse me of digressing into other areas of human affairs that have no relevance to our political process and conditions.

Now let's get back to the deeply politically-motivated questions I was asking you earlier about the relationship of your staff with Abramoff, shall we?"

7. Here's a quote from Tester:

Tester, who showed a fuller range of emotion in the course of the evening, probably found a sound bite moment in response to a Burns charge that he is "soft on terrorism." Tester, Burns said, "doesn't understand this enemy" and would weaken the Patriot Act. "Let me be clear," Tester shot back sharply. "I don't want to weaken the Patriot Act. I want to repeal it."

Go Tester!

And I don't like to go north of St. Louie except in the summer or west of Missouri ever!
