Tennessee Senate: Ford by 5 as Corker Falters
Rasmussen 10/2/06

Representative Harold Ford (D) has taken a 48% to 43% lead over
Mayor Bob Corker (R) in Tennessee's increasingly competitive race
for U.S. Senate.

Ford has an edge with unaffiliated voters and leads by a whopping 70%
to 23% among moderates.

Ford has gained ground fast in recent weeks. A Rasmussen Reports poll
conducted Sept 5 showed him trailing by a single point, 44% to 45%,
after lagging by six points in August, twelve in July.

1. WOW! I know the GOP hasn't even begun to unleash...
that $60 mln warchest on us yet, but I'm beginning to think they want to lose? That's a huge swing in just a couple of weeks.

I think the White House would prefer to have a Dem Congress, that way they can point the finger of shame at those "obstructionist dems". I think one of the reasons the Big Dog was & is so popular, is that he truly had opposition. Bush doesn't have that, his party controls all facets of the federal government. I think they want to lose.

2. They don't want to lose. Republican psychology doesn't work like that.
They suffer from short term thinking---everything is about the immediate profit and you look at the world they way you want it to be. I agree that they're holding back that $60m warchest. But you'll see that unleashed in the next two weeks. It'll get ugly. They never lose, they never quit, they never give up. They're like zombies, only with trophy wives and better clothing.

3. Too late for war chest. Events trump money and Foley-gate is going to
be worth 5-10 points for every Dem candidate because the wingnuts are going to stay home in droves.

6. Many Evangelicals can't stomach voting GOP now
Unless Diebold manufactures a lot of votes, we should win the house and senate.

5. Ever counter of Senate seats gives TN to Corker/Porker
but I've known for a long time how much people here in TN want a change. It's in the air. Ford knows how to campaign. That add he did where he says he is not going to let Corker/Porker define him is great. It shows he has a backbone and wont be a giant rubber stamp like Frist is. Corker/Porker is not going to win unless he rigs the election and we've got those stupid vote switching touch screens here. But I think Ford wont let it be stolen.

7. I'm seeing a *whole* lot of 'old think' among the professional counters
Ther's a wave just starting to build. I think the timing is near-perfect for the Dems and has been helped immensely by the Republican's may falterings. In Tennessee, isn't Corker's land deal 'issues' just bubbling up more and more? Scandal ain't gunna help ol' Bob one damned bit.

8. The way I understand it....
is that Porker has been ordered to testify regarding that land deal sometime in the month of October.
